Kind of interesting, I wonder if they will start just stationing marines in orbit in the near future?

Sounds like a lot of investment for extremely limited impact to be honest, you could only deliver small squads, and, you'd either need a good long runway to land on, or some kind of delivery systems like deployment pods. The former is unlikely to go un-noticed, and the latter is incredibly expensive, dangerous, and far from certain to be effective.

Until they start building full army bases in orbit, with resources and troops to conduct a heavy and prolonged combat, this is really just a gimmick.

Plus it could be considered weaponizing space.

'Considered'? If the US were ever dumb enough to commit enough resources to make this work, it would undoubtedly be construed as an act of War by nations such as China. The ability to place a fully loaded Marine Squad anywhere on the planet would be a serious threat to any nation on the planet, and would extremely detrimental to the political climate.

I always held the notion that Space was Neutral. Nobody owned it! Alas, it seems that US expansionalism/borderline imperialism knows no bounds :doubt:

While a moronic, even fanciful, idea, it can do only harm to humanity...

So who's going to start off the 'Aliens' references? :)

This is not a signature.
You did not see this.
It was all a dream.
You will not tell anyone about this.

Now go and read this signature again.

So, you actually bothered to scroll down, eh? If you're that bored, you might as well take a look at the links above.

I was actually waiting for something more along the lines of Warhammer 40k references.

Another example of the US paying millions to develop a pen that writes in space, whereas everyone else just makes do with a pencil.

It makes me think that the US military policy brief reads something like:

1. Thou shalt waste money, lots and lots of money.
2. No seriously, a whole shitload of money.
3. Have you wasted most of your money? Good, how hand some out of friends in the military tech industry.
4. Money all gone? Don't worry, you'll get more.
5. Has Congress approved some ungodly sum to give you? Good, repeat Steps 1-4.

Indeed, a bunch of your namesakes loaded up with Termy Armour, Cyclones and Jetpacks would be a whole other ballgame ;)

Actually, that's an urban legend.  :p

I've got an authentic space pen (damn handy actually, it fits in my wallet) and its got a little blurb about the history.  The US never paid a cent to develop the space pens, they were entirely private sector developed.   If I remember rightly the USSR uses/used them as well.
