Yep. I read about that on Game Warden and I'm spitting mad about it.

Re: This bloke over at Gamewarden...
Well, to paraphrase what I said in the thread there...bschott has gone against his word, the very basis of the reason that he was allowed to present the Alpha in the first place. He's betrayed the trust of the team and everyone who's worked on the mod.

The result of that, is that now the team has to take precautions. We want a good, strong release. That's not going to happen if people start trying to siphon media off to use with the leaked Alpha, so we have to be careful about where it's stored and who has access to it. We don't want to be shut down by whoever holds the Battlestar Galactica copyright before we get that good, strong release. But it's too late to do anything about that.

Bschott felt like he had an opportunity, and he was right. Hopefully the cost of his moment of glory only results in a few delays, and not the mod getting a cease-and-desist notice.

Re: This bloke over at Gamewarden...
Does Universal Studios have a history of shuting down mods? I know MGM does.

Re: This bloke over at Gamewarden...
That may not be the issue. There seems to be a well-known precedent that if you don't defend your copyright you lose it.

Ergo, Universal may not have a choice than to play the heavy.

BSchott's actions -- on a board owned by Sci-Fi and by extension Universal -- were unthinkingly stupid. If anyone from the series production team happens across, the potential for strangling this mod at birth a la Adama choking Baltar's baby in Valley of Darkness becomes much greater.

Re: This bloke over at Gamewarden...
I agree but that said WB haven't had anything to say about TBP or any other B5 mod as they seem to realise that it's free advertising for them rather than a threat.

The corps only generally worry if someone is making money from IP or trying to pass themselves off as official. MGM closed mods mainly because they knew their own in-house game was likely to be **** and thus wouldn't sell if a mod was better.

Re: This bloke over at Gamewarden...
From what I've heard, generally the series production team aren't the ones worried about copyright infringement to such extremes. I've heard stories where the production team thought a website was awesome, chatted with the admin regularly, and then MGM sent him a cease-and-desist letter and the FBI seized his computer equipment. (He had screencaps and preview vids on the site.)

Just kidding ... I needed a moment of levity there...

Something like a year or two back, more specifically it was MGM vs SG1Archive.com over Stargate.

Re: This bloke over at Gamewarden...
God, I feel sorry for you guys.  This type of behavior is just sickening.  You trust this guy to do some promotion for your awesome mod, and he turns around and stabs you in the back.  That's flat-out wrong. I hope you guys don't take away any lasting discouragement from this; from the screenshots I've seen, you've pulled off things with the FS2 engine that :v: couldn't have imagined in their wildest dreams.  It's literally starting to look like FMV-quality.  I've never seen any of the BSG series, but I'm planning to in the future, and if the mod has been finished at that time, I'll be all over it. :)
