i had to go back and modify some of the faces on this box and when i drew in the new rectangles, the triangular faces were aligned wrong.  is there a way to fix this?

I drew in the faces using simple splines and then surfacing them then attaching to main body.

same thing on the other side.  im getting this affect even though the tri's are aligned properly

Looks like you have to adjust the smooth groups manually. Go to poly edit mode, and the smooth grouping thingie should be somewhere on the right side (depending on your Max version)

1/ Flip face?

2/ Make sure your vertexes are all welded.  Also manually set the smooth group as Senior Ranked Fish Intestines suggested.

the prob shows up only when vertices are welded.  smooth group fix worked.  Help much appreciated
