3.6.8 Screenshots (WARNING: Not 56k friendly!)
Showing off 3.6.7, and my video card just barely able to handle all this, as you can see by my FPS :nervous:

Like i said in the other thread, i love the new flak effects...

rakhshasha (sp? i can never spell this right) with env. mapping...

the Shivan CommNode looks a lot more eerie with the new maps. :D

Behold: The Erinyes!

Mara shot:

bah, imageshack won't let me upload some of the shots without me having to compress them, so sorry for any crappy quality.

i'll bet you anything this belongs in the SCP forum. :nervous:

To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

Thruster effects have been missing since (about) few builds after the 14/9 CVS build. SCP team is IIRC reworking something. And you are getting only retail effects, right, not the good looking SCP thrusters?

nah, just funked up hollow-looking thruster glows for the fighters and bombers.

I don't like the new subspace vortex.

Cobra, the animated Shivan Glowmaps are only in adveffects, which will probably melt your computer. :p

(forgot that they would be in adveffects)

i'll put adveffects in and see what happens. ;)

Looks nice. Post this stuff in the celebration thread in the main forum.

The thrusters work for me but I've been using an older version (7/28) for a while due to various bugs in 3.6.7 and later versions. Although the latest effects vp doesn't contain the proper thrusters either, so that might also have something to do with it.

This did get fixed last night btw.  They should be working again in the next available CVS build.

I feel the same way. Sure, it's neat looking, but it's too Stargate-ish for my tastes. The older style vortex is one of the things that's always screamed "Freespace" to me. I just ripped it out of the 3.6.6 vp's and all was well. :)

I was thinking the same thing about the vortex.  It is a nice effect, but it just doesn't have that classic FS feel.  The previous 3D model managed to spice up the original effect while stil maintaining that feel.

IMO, i think that that vortex got ripped from Duelron's FSNA project. :nervous:

I don't know, I think the current effect looks more like the FS1 intro vortex.  Which is the ultimate standard it should be held against anyway, IMHO.

Maybe you're right; it'll probably just take a little time to get used to.  I've only played once or twice with the new VPs in there.

Well, while i agree that the origan vortex was more "freespace" this one hides the edge of the ship coming out much better, prevents it form looking like crap when you see a ship exit subspace from behind.

Mabye one day we'l get a fix where subspacey particles can be spawned from the area of the ship as it exist subspace...

I'd like a white fog or some kind of transparency instead of the obvious edge cutoff we have now, like they used in the cutscenes.

FSNA uses a vortex created for FS2. I'm not sure which one.
