Anybody else find "hard" too hard?
Hello all!

I have played FS2 some years ago and completed it on the "medium" difficulty AFAIR. No real problems except maybe towards the end with the Shivan juggernauts.

But now that I have installed FS:O and embarked upon playing the FS2 campaign on "hard", I cannot even finish The Romans Blunder mission (no.6) no matter how hard I try. And that's only the beginning of FS2's difficulty slope, isn't it? :)

The problem is probably the other squadron members who mindlessly rush into the final encounter with the two warships+escorts, getting blown to pieces in a matter of 15 seconds on this difficulty, thus leaving me all alone against the enemy ships, who just refuse to get lured out of the cruiser's firing range.

Also, I have bought a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro joystick in hope to get a better aim at those enemies, but I find it even harder now to keep em locked in the firing position. Been fiddling with the Sens/Dead settings, but on higher sensitivities the stick gets a slight yaw or pitch momentum even when I am not touching it. Any one have any recommendations on how to set up this kind of joystick for FS2? Maybe a logitech profile even? That'd be really appreciated.

So, in conclusion, is it my age, the stick, or did FS2 just get harder on "harder" in the open release?

It might be harder due to a few minor bugs (IIRC tracking on tornadoes is not what it once was.)

Try playing medium but using the -fov 0.4 (experiment with the number a little) command line to make your field of view smaller. I've always found that makes the game a little more challenging :)

i found the tornado tracking better than retail. :D

about the aiming thing; if you haven't played FS2 for a while, you may just be out of practice.

and the AI was optimised in FSO, for reasons like fixing turret targetting or stuff like that, AFAIK. :)

I've found my wingmen stay alive longer and are generally more useful in FSO. At least on Medium. Same with capships. They're better able to stave off bomber attacks.

I've always found it pretty challenging on hard, and since I no longer have a joystick it's even worse now. I think I'mm gonna buy a £10 cheapy thing from somewhere, I mean I only want a stick and two buttons. (Primary and secondary. But a third might be nice for targeting next hostile.)

I played the campaign on insane through FSO a month ago and didn't find anything remarkably different than how I remember it in retail FS2. The usual tricks for each mission still work. The wingmen always die quickly, but that's no different from how it used to be.

There are a handful of small changes/bugs that may possibly make some parts harder, such as the turret AI firing anti-capital beams at your bombs and accidentally vaporizing you in the process, but stuff like that is pretty rare. I don't remember anything unusual with tornadoes, although I think I might not have ever used those at all.

god, can't you just spell correctly? for some reason seeing you murder the english language pisses me off. :nervous:

and the reason it's always insane is the fact that most of your opponents are human players. :p

At least he uses capitalization.  You used a question mark, so I know that shift key of yours works. :p

But spelling "Multi[player]" as "mulit" (which bears a lot of phonetic similarity to a certain unfashionable hairstyle) - twice - is pretty bad, I'll admit.
who needs a signature? ;)

Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!
