...because my dad's alvarez is getting a little banged up from the extended stay in my room, and i cant hook it up to a pedal. I would like an electric, but i have absolutly no idea which one to get, but if i did, it would probably be in the $150-$250 and at that price i could buy plenty of stuff to go along with it

soooo............. any suggestions?

fender's squier line has some inexpensive guitars.  they suck ass though.  the plugs loosen easily and the tone from the construction and shoddy pickups isn't all that great.  if if you can handle the crappiness until you can save up for a decent mid-range guitar ($500-1000 range) then get it.

Electric is ok.
Though it is hard to beat a decent acustic guitar with a pickup.

Seriously, though. I appreciate the want for an electric, but I want to make sure it's justified. For many people, an acoustic is much more appropriate, but they just go straight to electric without putting in more thought.

And btw, go Eric Clapton.

[color=66ff00]Drew get yourself a Yamaha pacifica, a 112 is just over £100 UK and has a great build and tone. Plays very well too.

All of this has made it a very sought after first electric.

except the low B string sounds like crap when its distorted, it gets way too muddy.  There's some special circuitry that can be built into the pickups to overcome this.  The lowest I tune anyways is Db, but im usually in E or Eb

well you cant really hook up my dads alvarez to a pedal can you  I saw some really nice pirces on ebay, les pauls for $150 and such (my freind bought his gibson les paul on ebay for like 175) and a  really nice dimond series somthing somthing for $175

iv heard good things about yamahas from my other freinds, maytble i check the pacifica out

i learned to play on a stratocaster, and i'd say for starting off, start playing on an electric, just because it's easier on your fingers than an acoustic guitar.  although if i could go back in time i'd rather have started playing on an acoustic, rather than going through the pain and callouses of playing on an electric, and just when i get used to it, i pick up an acoustic, and it starts all over again

If you can play an acoustic guitar, then you can play any electric with no problem

I'd have to agree with Maeg and 01010 about the Pacifica 112. Although, because it's so highly rated, you can sometimes find higher-spec Pacificas for less money! I saw a top-end Pacifica (I think it was the 912) for £20 less than the 112 in one shop. Look around, and I'm, sure you'll find something you like. I personally went straight for an Epi SG - it just felt so much better than all the strat-a-likes that seem to dominate the budget ranges. I'm saving up now, and I'm torn between a PRS Santana SE2, a full-on Gibson (SG or Explorer or Voodoo Les Paul) or a Peavey Wolfgang (my teacher's got one and it's sweeeet )

One thing I would say though - get a decent amp. A £2000 Lesbo will sound bloody awful if you put it through an el-cheapo amplifier. I'd recommend the Marshall MG series to start with. They're cheapish, and they sound pretty good. Then upgrade to a DSL when you have the cash

you're probably looking at anywhere from less than $100 to a few hundred $ if you buy it online.

i talked with a dude at work who has a fretless bass and he was like, Skrew the pacifica and get a stratocaster.... bull****

I didn't say you should stick with that old Alvarez, but I can hook up my acoustic to a pedal. Get a semi.
