Actually IIRC the oldest city found so far is in South America of all places. :D

really? I thought the various South American cultures (that we know of) didn't exist before maybe 500 AD, and reached their pinnacle in between 1000 and 1500 AD. Of course, it stands to reason that they probably came over the Bering Strait while it as still possible to do so, so the people are almost certainly very old, but I have never come across anything to indicate that civilizations themselves were that old.

Interesting stuff in either case. Linky perhaps?

Here you go. This one doesn't say it's as old as it is where I first heard of. It may be refering to a different city though.

@Grey Wolf: That city you're talking about is that of the Minoans, IIRC.  I think that's the closest to an 'official' theory any of them are at the moment.

It does actually fit the legend quite well. The minoans were more advanced than the civilisations around them and they were destroyed by a volcanic eruption and floods.

Intruiging....

Atlantis....atlanteans...  There may be some truth in it, alltough I doubt it was as grand as Palato described it...
It just MIGHT be a house that sank in the sea...:D

*thinks of Draconians/atlanteans from VOE, from Atlantis from Stargate, Atlantis, Jules Verne, and other such things...*

Do you think they had Plasma Cannons, Jump dirves, Underwater seweed farms, psychic power or wings?:D

Nah. They were mighty wizards, who after their city sank gained the power to communicate with fish telepathically :p

I forget how many, but all over the World (Incuding the Americas) have a legend of a great sunken civilization called Atlantis, Atlantica, or something similar...

It's absolutely not the last discovery. I'm not convinced...and never will be. I think Plato was a blithering fool who knew he was going to obsess generations with his mythical story and is currently having a good laugh at us all from his grave.
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Akhenaton's veneration of Aten is contested as the first recorded monotheistic religion. If Zoroastrianism began around 1400BC (it has a wide range of starting dates), it was the first recorded (though to be fair, it's more a form of dualism, which at its heart is monotheism... yes).
