How should America memorialize Ronald Wilson Reagan?
I think the question says it all.

Would you prefer small, but intensly poignant, kind of like The Eternal Flame at the JFK graveside.  Or do you think we should put him on Mt. Rushmore next to Lincoln?

This was prompted by a promo for Keith Olberman's show tomorrow night.

I love Reagan and all... but I don't think he's quite up there with Lincoln. At the most, he could get his own memorial-type piece of art in Washington somewhere.

No Politics.  If you can't say something useful, and preferably nice, about the topic DON'T POST.  We are talking about memorializing a deceased Leader of Men, not your dead Shi Tzu.

you know I was reading an article about a space elevator recently and it said that one of the two biggest problems (powering the devices used to build the cable) can be solved becase we have lasers capable of powering them all the way up in to orbital altitudes, and the only reason we have these lasers is becase Reagan wanted orbital laser cannons, and funded it, people laughed at him, but becose of his idea of shooting down incomeing ICBMs with laser cannons, a lader to heaven may ironicly be his true legicy.

Your seriously telling me you wouldn't want to be shot into space when you die? The higher the profile the better.

I am not especially concerned in this, but I think building a staute of any size would be (insert prefered word with positive meaning here)

You will note that Lincoln and JFK were both assassinated, and this is a large part of the reason for the memorials.

Ron was not.

Increase funding for medical research, specifically involving the setup of an Alzheimers research foundation.  That'd be infinately more valuable than another statue or monument.

Yeah, legalize stem cell research, there would be no greater tribute to a leader who suffered from a disease which could be cured with such technology.

(Mrs. Regan is now at odds with the Bush administration regarding this matter.)

And allow/increase funding for stem cell research which is the most likely cure.

Seriously, if America takes another one single memorial statue, I'm going to bomb it myself. All that sentimental crap that costs millions of dollars to build. :ick:

Memorialize, as in a statue, sculture, or other long-term artistic tribute to the deceased.

He already has a presidential library, as all presidents do. Why does he need another piece of architecture?

Stem cell research, now, could give him a better legacy in death than he had in life.
