For all those that wanted to see the Enterprise vs. an Orion...
How will the turrets look on the Enterprise-D? Plus, are you going to have any thruster glows? I suppose you could tile them all the way around the warp nacelles, but that would probably slow down FS2 or something...

Will this Enterprise have docking points? And will it have a fighterbay in the appropriate positions? Perhaps have three fighter/shuttle bays like in the show. Two on the neck and one big one on the top-rear of the saucer section.

After making all the subsystems, you might want to create some alternate subsystems, like the defector dish, bridge, etc. Will you be able to 'blow off' the nacelles (like how the dishes, etc on the AWACs gets blow off)?

You should have a go at making two models out of the Enterprise D... One is the saucer section and the other one is the drive section (battle section). In the game they can be docked together with the drive section moving the saucer section around etc. And then it can disconnect in an emergency like in the show.

I wish I could make models so that I could help you.

Great job so far!

Let's see:
Turrrets: Due to the fact that FS2 requires turrets to be a separate subobject if you wan them damaged, they are very small cubes which you will not really notice in-game.
Docking Points: Yes
Fighterbays: Maybe
Nacelles that blow off: No, because when the naccelles are destroyed the whole ship would be destroyed, but they might be subsystems.
Separatable parts: Probably not.

May I just suggest then, make the Impulse engines the engine subsystem, and just make the nacelles as separate subsystems that have no effect on the engines. Coz really they're just for warp not for sublight speeds.

What about thruster glows? Perhaps have them on the impulse engines (except they're red - and if the Enterprise-D is friendly it'll be blue/yellow).

Where will the docking points be?

Will you add shields (similar to the shielded deimos)?

there's a limit of about 15 glows per model, so tiling them is not an option...

Status Report: 15 August 2001

Well, there's only about 20 ships left to reskin, however, they're getting increasingly harder to do, since I left the most difficult to last. Joining forces with White Dove was a great idea, we have been playing around with some Star Trek style sounds. We now have a speaking Klingon and a Romulan wingman, plus tonnes of new sounds for the voices/special folder. I have been playing around with the sounds.tbl file and have finally unloaded all of the other sounds for weapons, etc. I've only got half the beam sounds to go, but that shouldn't take too long.

I have also been fiddling around with mission making for the Alpha Quadrant campaign. I have almost finished a mission to accompany the Alpha Quadrant project's release. It's set in the Utopia Planitia shipyards in high orbit of Mars. A rogue Romulan faction decides to attack. I have filled the events editor to the brim so that there is a lot of commosion going on with ships moving about, and messages from your wingmen and your enemy, plus I have used variables for some of the enemies motives (for a certain reason). Plus I have revived something from one of the early FS1 missions where you had to kill an Ace, and this Romulan terrorist Ace is a very good pilot and seems to talk too much.

OK, I give up, I made it so the saucer and stardrive section can be separated:
