I loved that scene, it makes us identify (even a little bit) with Aken Bosch, even with that one simple detail. Sometimes you have to incorporate details of your target audience's life in with whatever you're doing, you want to connect with the humanity in the story and draw your audience in with even a small and stupidly
familiar detail, such as the sound of a man typing at a keyboard...
I think it's a poor trend within the SF genre to focus too much on the toys and technology, and too little on the story you were trying to tell and the life you were trying to convey.
Although I gotta admit, voice recognition would sure be a hell of a lot easier on my carpal-tunnel syndrome
