My mum asked me to sort out her friend's computer, her son had bought a linksys wifi adsl modem/NAT/firewall/switch and couldn't get it up and running. It took about 20 minutes to get the problem sorted; a modem configuration error basically.

I was just about to leave when they asked me if I wanted their old computer, normally I don't ask for anything in return for what I do but I wanted to see the machine as they were considering just binning it. In their attic was a P3 450MHz with 64megs of ram and an 8 gig HDD, not a bad wee machine and easily upgradeable given SDRAM prices today, what came with it was the nice bit, a decent 17 inch monitor, they even gave me an old canon BJC-2100 printer and a steering wheel that ran off a midi port (their new computer only had USB ports). I'll probably put a bit more RAM in the machine and give it to my sister but I thought it was a nice reward for 20 minutes of work.

Make it into a retro game machine. It probably already has an SB16 compatible sound card and you can stick a $10 Voodoo2 from ebay in there for Glide support. Firing up the old classics every now and then is a lot of fun.

I wish Fury but he needs something he can cart between the uni library and his flat. He's going to be giving me free legal advice if I ever need it so I consider it an investment. ;)

Cp: It's got a Voodoo 3 built onto the board, I'm afraid I'm not much of a classic gamer though. That's what my SNES is for.
