It's aliiiive!!! *Mad scientist laugh*
Finished building my 2nd DDR pad, making a last minute adjustment, seen here:

But, onto what the topic is about.. I've also finished overhauling my first DDR pad!

Anyway, I'm pretty stoaked about it.  :nervous: Had to share.  :) ;)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Haha, believe me, it's far from dancing. But it's certainly fun and a good work-out! I've never really built anything in my whole life, so I'm pretty proud of them.  :)

You have way too much time on your hands man.......
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Neh, doesn't actually take long to build one. I could probably build on in a day, maybe two, if I just sat down and did it. Besides, they're great for parties.

:wtf:

Oh come now, some people spend some of their time on drawing, art, sculpting, running, singing, and what have you. I spend some of my time on DDR and pad building. I guess I shouldn't have expected any pats on the back or "nice looking pad!" responses..  :doubt:

Hey Ulala? Nice looking pad! ;)

No seriously, I used to play a lot on these things when I was in high school. Haven't been on one since - I think they require a degree of fitness to use properly. :D Where do you get the parts from?

For most people I've noticed that DDR looks like something you'd feel stupid playing, it's only when you have a go at it you realise how much fun it is.

All I wanted to know was what the hell Dance Dance Revolution is! Assume I've never seen any explanatory commercials for it (which is true). In my shoes, wouldn't YOU go :wtf:?

I'm impressed.  Now build one that covers the entire floor, and where you can control various electrical devices (TV, lights, etc) through the appropriate funky dance patterns.

Hey Ulala? Nice looking pad! ;)

No seriously, I used to play a lot on these things when I was in high school. Haven't been on one since - I think they require a degree of fitness to use properly. :D Where do you get the parts from?

Thanks. They're both made out of plywood, some fiberboard, sheet metal (stainless steel or aluminum, whichever is cheaper at the time), the contacts are made with 26 ga. galvy, some Cat5, screws, and a whole lotta duct tape. The arrow graphics are available online, but I change the colors with photoshop and take them into Kinkos.

The one I'm passing off to a friend is for X-Box, and I have two for PS2 myself. You can wire them for PC though (usb), they use some program/game called Stepmania.

Sorry bud, like Maeg, I figured most everyone had at least heard of it. That, and based on the previous tone of responses in the thread, I thought I was getting another "wtf is your problem" response. Sorry.   :o

If I remember correctly, someone was working on something similar to that description. It looked more like a disco floor from the 70s, but the idea was the same.. can't remember what exactly they used it for though, some other DDR-esque game I would imagine.

Anyway, thanks guys.  :)
