Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
Has anyone played this game? It's ****ing amazing! I only wish the co-op was more than just "protect the engineer and gather energy cells" or that there were a larger variety of bugs in co-op.
Derek Smart is his own oxymoron.

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
I played the demo many moons ago, and liked it a fair amount, actually. Never got the full game tho.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
I thought it (assuming this is the new FPs one and not the old RTS one) was supposed to be utterly, utterly awful and a buggy (ho-ho!) mess?

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
Well, this is what the critics are saying about it

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/919812.asp I was also able to *ahem* aquire it a few weeks ago and played it for all of ten minutes before going back to some goold old FEAR and Half-Life 2.

Last I played it (the demo), it was choppy and glitchy all to hell. Has that been fixed?

Oh, wait, I was referring to the oldish RTS game.

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
I remember getting the demo, something going funky with the video-options, and when I started up the game, the left third of the screen was a smear! A F--KING SMEAR. As in, it was as if someone had wiped a weegie over wet paint. Freaked me out, man...

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
There's an FPS now? When did this happen?

The RTS is abandonware, AFAIK.

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
I'd prefer one that's closer to the book than the film.

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
Somebody posted the demo here a while back. I played it once, and hated it. Bad graphics, bad textures, bad sound effects, poor interface, useless weapons and bad level design. So no. ;)

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
Unfortunately I agree. It ran very sluggishly on my machine and although I wanted to like it (I liked the film... in theory an FPS based on it should be awesome) but I just couldn't do it. Ah well...

Re: Does anyone play Starship Troopers?
well, the full game runs a lot smoother than the demo. The effects are also improved from the demo and there are no technical bugs that I can think of.  And who doesn't like talking grenades?

I'd prefer one that's closer to the book than the film.

That would play a lot like Tribes... well plus nuclear hand grenades ;)

But one based on the book would be a ton better. Fight rebel scum, bugs, etc.
