EDIT: And please remove the flood control - or at least lower it to 10 seconds or so.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Thats a shame, Whoever put it up is just messing around with the various functions and trying for something new. If you don't like it then don't look at it but I don't think it's worth a new topic.

Are you mad? the whole idea (and the great thing) about this place is to keep spam to a minimum, dropping the flood control would make it a lot easier for spam to occur. And what difference does it make anyway? Your the first to complain about this.

Public notice: Please email one of the staff with things like this in future, we can then deal with you directly and not muck around with forum posting.

Sandwich, if you want to continue this - email me. However this topic (and all future topics of this "I want this", "I hate this get rid of it", "Do what I want to the exclusion of all else", will be 0wned.

Topic re-opened, apologies to Sandwich if I appeared to be unpleasent, I was in a bit of a "dictator" mood and kinda vented without much cause.

The other reason is he emailed me as I asked and justified himself, well done - I'd like to get everyones opinions of the flood limit time and the smilies on this thread, it might be useful later.

Again - apologies for being unpleasent.

EDIT: However a request that people think about wether thier topic is really needed or could be better served by an email. Thanks

I agree about the smiley, it doesn't reflect at all what I mean when I put  . I'm not nodding, I'm just smilling.
About the flood control, it's too long, yup, but I think it's the price to pay so Snipes doesn't have twice is current post count

If you can make the nodding smiley something else, please do so. Also, this smiley (   ) isn't expressing what we're really feeling either. If you can make those something else, that'd be appreciated.

If I find some good ones, maybe.  As for the flood control, deal with it.

You could edit the smilies table and make different entries for those, I don't think it'd be too difficult.

Ah, and while you're there you could add my :sigh: ( ) smilie...
Probably away. Contact through email.

Thunder - apologies accepted and all that stuff...

Shrike, as I wrote in my email to Thunder, I was not complaining about flood-control per se, but about a "bug" it has. You see, when I tried to submit this topic, it refused to allow it on the basis of it having too many images (I had 9 in the original message - all smilies). Anyway, I pressed back to remove a few, and then submitted it again. It got caught by flood-control, even though I had not suceeded in posting previously.

Another flood-control annoyance is when I'm browsing in multiple windows simutaneously, and I reply to one topic, switch to the next, type a quick "I agree with whats-his-face" and submit that, and it gets caught.

Anyway, all of these are just minor annoyances, though. I have the feeling that some of this stuff can only be fixed by a UBB patch or something, but I don't know what kind of options you guys have behind the scenes.

In the end, though, I think the annoyance I'd rank first would be that smilies count as images in a post. I've passed that limit easily in some of the more serious topics on the forums, and it's a shame to be forced to hunt through 10 paragraphs of text for that one smiley that you can do without.

EDIT: My smiley request is this, dubbed "doubtful":       . I've wanted to have an expression just like that for a while now, so I finally made one.

I've posted a topic about this in the staff forum...  I think we want to try and limit the final amount of smilies added, this forum wasn't designed with smilies in mind.

So, about the original point of this topic: is there going to be something done with the nodding smiley?
