My point was that she's still a realistic character. :p

Spoiler:
If you want to get down to it, she's really just the girl in "The Hot Chick" taken to an extreme. But her question to Starbuck about getting what she wants...it makes her look even worse to the audience, because the rape and abandonment is what Cain wanted, but I think to Cain, achieving the end result is what matters. It shows ambition, determination, and capability.

I've actually been confronted with questions regarding things related to her 2D-ness, and if you actually think, she really isn't;

Spoiler:
My friend was complaining about how Adama never defended himself by saying that they tried to rape his prisoner. Among the other reasons, one of the main ones was that he had no basis, and she, technically, was completely correct: Sharon is a POW, and the colonial rules for POW treatment presumably only apply to humans; since Sharon is not technically a human, it is not applicable to her. Helos and the Chief that came to rescue her assaulted and killed a superior officer; something punishable by death. She makes numerous references to the colonial law, and in reality, everything she does is right. While the killing of the families may be over the top, she could justify it by calling them traitors and refusing to be drafted. But like I said, it's a bit over the top; that point is harder to justify.

Ultimately, Cain's job as a Colonial military officer is to defend Colonial civilians. She's clearly abandoned that responsibility. That's what makes her evil. That, and the fact that every time she carries out one of her little summary executions, she's wiping out a significant percentage of the human race.

PS-- for the love of god, it's Gaeta, not "Gata".

Sacrifice the hand to save the body. Machines have an inherent advantage, and in order to human to minimize the gap and have a chance of surviving, it is necessary for them to mimic machine efficiency as closely as possible. That means being absolutely cold, rational and ruthless. In theory, as long as enough of the population was present to ensure genetic intergrity in future generations, the rest are dead weight.

That's what bugs me about both the Matrix and BSG. The machines are vastly, vastly less powerfull mentality than they ought to be, because it is literally impossible for a human to outhink a machine of human-or-above intelligence. Even taking into account human unpredictability, a machine should be able to plan for every contingency far better than a human could.

And besides, Cain adds spice to the show. It's no fun now that Adama and Roslin are all buddy-buddy and the crew can pretty much do as they like. There's no conflict. What would be really interesting is if Cain actually succeeded in taking command of Galactica and ran things while Adama & Co went underground and staged some sort of coup. That, or Roslin getting a new body from the Cylon ship.

Holy crap.  This is the first honest-to-god time I've seen anything related to the new series of BSG.  Why in hell haven't I been watching this series?  I have got a LOT to catch up on.  Now if I had broadband... grr..

Uhmmm... you live under a rock? Between the miniseries that aired in 2003, the entire first season, the DVD box sets, the entry of "frak" into popular usage, and the new BSG FS2 total conversion... it's the only explanation I can think of.

Don't give too much credit to BSG... That motherfragging word was used around these parts during the last millenia... I think B5 gets much credit for that... Mr smilingface Sheridan used it couble of times I think, but BSG is just wearing it out... :doubt:

Damn Sky for being so expensive. Oh well, I'm sure BSG will get shown on terrestrial sometime in the next million years :). I would have just bought the DVDs but I think 50 quid for half a season is just a tiny bit steep.
Be warned: This site's admins stole 100s of hours of my work. They will do it to you.

The word used in nerd, military (first), and... almost... barely making it into pop culture, and used in B5 is 'frag.'

"Abso-fragging-lutely!"

Frak was made for the original Galactica, and its becoming actually popular would be due to the current show.

"Frak" is what BSG uses in place of "****", in order to add an element of authenticity to the characters' language while complying with content regulations.

Very true... But what is the big deal?
Anyway, the way BSG does it annoys me. If they have to swear, then do it properly, or don't do it at all. "Frak" is just faking it. Though my feelings might have something to do with the fact that Finnish language is much richer in "words of power" than english...

I think it's an acceptable way to handle an old predicament: How do you make the situation feel authentic when the characters can't say what we know they would say? It's the future, so the language will have changed, making it entirely believable.

Although I think Firefly wins 1st Prize for its solution-- just swear in Mandarin.

Did you just skip half the posts on this page? The reason they say "frak" on BSG is because "****" violates broadcast standards. And no mild version of it would do-- the entire point of swearing is to say something offensive. That's why you don't scream "Rats!" when you hurt yourself.

So, in conclusion, frag you, you frelling mother-fracker.
