Hmm...Five years ago...My memory doesn't reach back that far.  All I remember is school.  >.<

As for 5 years from now, my plans change every 6 weeks.  So by then, I think I will have gone through 44 more plans.

And I can't forget to do this:

Happy Birthday...er...(What does a server have, power on day?)...to you...
Want to be famous?  Click here and become a playing card!!!

Bush (Verb) -- To do stupid things with confidence.

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

Bumper stickers at my college:
"Republicans for Voldemort!"
"Frodo failed.  Bush got the Ring."

Resistance is futile!  (If < 1 ohm...)

"Any nation which sacrifices a little liberty for a little security deserves neither and loses both." -- Benjamin Franklin

2006-5 = 2001. Last year of high school (or 1st of uni). Enjoying it for a change, and just really learning the joys of the intarweb!

Five from now = 2011. Hopefully successfully running one of several businesses that are on the go just now or have recently been laid out in various plans. Perhaps married, or at least having lots of sex. With women. :p

Man....5 years ago.  I was Project Manager of Volition Watch, I was just finishing up High School/entering University, I was involved with The Babylon Project, WarZone was finished, BWO was started, and well...wow that was a while ago.

So much has changed. So much has also stayed the same.

In another 5 years...not likely to be married, likely/hopefully out on my own, really...god knows what.  Long term plans seem to fail...

Woo! Where's the beer at?

5 years ago, I was 15. So I was in school doing all the usual tedious school crap. In 5 years' time, I'll be in the final year of my degree, and almost a fully qualified chartered engineer. Or I'll be flipping burgers somewhere...

I was like...11, and had no idea what the heck the world was about. Thankfully I've matured since then.

In five years, I hope to be 21 (unless the space time continuim screws with me)...and we all know what happens then, I go back to temporarily not knowing what the heck the world is about.

Five years ago, I was in ninth grade, owning the UT servers and a regular VBB poster. That was the time when Tell a Story had lost all its charm and was just being bumped to increase its post count, the FRED forum was still a pretty cool place to be, and the Squadwar forum was about to be shut down and there was the deal with JTO and TCA's breakup. Good times. And I had given up on my super mega 200 mission dynamic branching epic FS2 campaign after doing three missions, as I'm sure most of us have. :D

As for five years into the future, I'll probably be struggling with my dissertation, or looking for a job if I get really lucky. :p And most likely still playing computer games and building Lego stuff. Can't really say whether I'll still be in this community though.

Wow, has it really been five years? I feel old.

Five years ago I was busy dodging homework and playing games. Right now I'm busy dodging work and playing games. And hanging around here.

And in five years time...well, if all goes according to plan, my armies will be marching across Europe to politely inform the leaders of the world that they have become obsolete and will promptly be terminated.

I forgot! 5 years from now, I hope to be married, still admining HLP in my spare time (my spare spare time, mind you - the theoretical wifey would get 1st priority...), and still in Jerusalem - I love it here. :D

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Five years ago, I was exploring the internet on dialup and would stumble across this place soon after. Five years from now... gawd, I'll either be in grad school or have some job in Washington, D.C.

It's amazing that this place has really been up for five years... happy birthday HLP! You deserve it.

Heh, kind of depressing.

Five years ago from today, I was probably either back in school (Jr. High) or doing stuff with friends, or working on the website/forums for MechWar3D.

Five years from now, I don't know. Maybe I'll have graduated from college or figured out what to do with my life. Hopefully, I won't have to deal with my parents much anymore, and I'll be earning enough to be self-sufficient. And hopefully I have more friends IRL that I feel comfortable around, can do stuff with, etc.

Five years from now I'll be 21, in college and hopefully building a spaceship headed for Mars (seriously). :)
