Looks like another week of Linux for me, then.

Quote from: Microsoft's Lennart Wistrand
...these crashes are not exploitable but are instead Windows performance issues that could cause some WMF applications to unexpectedly exit. These issues do not allow an attacker to run code or crash the operating system. They may cause the WMF application to crash, in which case the user may restart the application and resume activity.

Oooh, revolutionizing news:

Hear, hear, ye people on Earth!

Windows can cause some applications to unexpectedly exit.

Here comes the real trick...

In such a case the user may restart the application and resume activity.

Now this is new to me, I never experienced Windows causing an application to unexpectedly exit, nor did I have to restart the application to resume activity...

This news, this is as surprizing as recent statements or news:

Water is wet
Microsoft Windows XP is Insecure
World is Big

and

A Bear comments: Yep, I do **** in the woods.

LOL Considering the only application I have to close from both the taskbar, and then open Taskmanager and close again is Microsoft Messenger, which re-insinuates itself in your startup list at every update (something I've only ever seen Spyware etc do) this comes as no great shock to me ;)

A level headed and appropriate response IMHO.

I've had Direct3D apps crash to desktop unexpectedly and without warning. They just disappear.  Probably not in context here but hey, it has happened.

Well, that's what I meant - Is it really any news to anyone that some applications crash to desktop without warning in Windows? It doesn't surprize me very much that Windows has trouble with itself, too.  :D
