In the episode "All Americans", which originally aired on 17 January 1990, Al states he was watching Super Bowl XXX, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were playing and were three points behind in the fourth quarter. The actual game wouldn't air for another six years, but the Steelers did play and were, in fact, three points behind in the fourth quarter. The team hadn't been to the Super Bowl in the ten years prior.

That's pretty cool.

I always wanted to go to church, sit there meekly until about half way through and then jump up, looking disorientated and say "oh boy".

I doubt many people would get it though.

If someone did that, and really threw themselves into it, I'd laugh my mother****ing ass off.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Yeah, it's pretty much the event that happens at the end of every show, Sam jumps into somebody new, finds himself in a weird situation and mutters the words "oh boy".

The basic storyline is a time travelling physics doctor "leaps" into peoples lives to right wrongs. No one else is aware of this as they see the personal normally, and Sam's refelection is the person he is occupying. He is guided by a projection of a mate who can provide info (who hs is, where, when etc) who no one else can see (except for children IIRC) but he takes a while to appear. So Sam is stick for the first 10 mins or so of the show who no idea of what's going on.

I watched a few episodes of QL.  It was pretty interesting, but not enough to be one of my favorites.

I saw the last ever episode while lying in hospital. Now there's a memory that will stick.

Animals, babies and mental patients could all see Al.

Electricity could futz with the link between him and Sam, screwing up Sam's separation from his host body's personality and occassionally switching Al into a host and Sam back to the Quantum Leap facility.

And there was an Evil Leaper called Alia, whose holographic guide person was called Zoey. They were from further in the future than the Quantum Leap project and could control leaps into specific people, as opposed to Sam's random jumps. They went through time wronging what once went right.

In the finale, Sam leaps into this bar on the day of his birth, but it's all screwy. He sees people leaping in and out, people being remembered and forgotten and they've all got names of people he's known. The bartender, Al, tries to explain things to him but it's pretty confusing and all open to interpretation. But eventually Sam seems to understand and leaps out, with the series closing: "Dr Beckett never returned home".

In an alternate ending, he makes one last leap to Al's first wife's house in the 70s while Al's still a POW in Vietnam - but he leaps as himself, not into someone else's body - and he tells her Al's still alive and to wait for him. This fixes Als entire life, erases about 7 failed marriages and he ends up happily married with about 9 kids. It also presumably erases the Quantum Leap project from history and leaves Sam leaping forever through time, putting right what once went wrong.

Very cool.

Anyone with "elevated alpha waves". This also included children, nuns, and at least one guy with similar patterns to Sam's (for the QL version of the Scrooge story).

The thing I liked about Quantum Leap was that it was a lot more cleverer than it seemed.

Stuff like's Sam's memories. He starts out with all these chunks missing from his mind, but as he leaps and things in the future change, he remembers more and more and the things he remembers start to change. Like his wife (Donna?). I think he starts out with her as the 'one that got away' then they're divorced, then they're married. And the same thing happens with Al a little too. He says things that seem like goofs, but can be tracked back to changes Sam has made while he was in or around past-Al.

And the physics of it were totally consistent throughout. Granted, they never mentioned much, but the things they did mention were fixed and unchanging.

And there's supposedly a sequel planned.
