Haha, reading this necro thread reminded me of how creepy transcend was.

Spoiler:
Transcend was that campaign where you're flying through red Nebula, and ships start disappearing left and right, right?

Re: Scariest moments in the Freespace universe.
I never found Transcend to be all that creepy for the Nebula. BP: AoA was creepier in the Nebula as you'd look to the side and then see a ship - out of nowhere - and then it would disappear. Transcend's most frightening element was the Generation by far.

Re: Scariest moments in the Freespace universe.
Windmills last mission. When you're winning and destroying one side, and then forced to switch out of the blue, and when you're winning again, another switch happens with no hope of surviving.

Re: Scariest moments in the Freespace universe.
I'm kinda odd, I guess, because the only FS campaign that has successfully weirded me out, even having played Transcend and Windmills, was Into the Depths of Hell of all things. I don't even understand why, given that it played like an action movie and there were some truly bizarre plot twists in the later chapters, but the whole "fleeing in random directions from the Shivans" thing affected me more due to being in what was ostensibly their territory. Plus, say what you will about ItDoH's storyline, it made the Shivans as implacable as I've ever seen them.

Re: Scariest moments in the Freespace universe.
Spoiler:
1.  "Memories never die."
2.  The ships from Sync flashing in front of you in the second to last mission.
3.  The Incontrovertible missions in the nebula.

Not from Transcend:
1.  Sync:  "We're out of time."
2.  Sync:  Seeing the lifeless wrecks of the other ships that were pulled into subspace at the same time.
3.  Derelict:  The Marie Celeste.
4.  WiH:  That eye flashing in front of you.  That ****ing eye.

Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Spoiler:
I thought of Lord of the Rings when I saw that. That entire mission was pretty creepy though.

Of course I'm going to go with the Transcend crowd here, but my scariest moment was not the voices. The first was when that huge ****ing subspace vortex appeared, and when we went to investigate, there was nothing but a cargo container. The second was when we were making a run for the node and all these subspace vortexes appeared all around and we had to fly through them to get to the node. Things like that weird me out more than the whispers (though those were pretty damn scary too). Damn now I really wanna play Transcend again. Or maybe I should get around to playing Sync.
[16:57] <CommanderDJ> What prompted the decision to split WiH into acts?
[16:58] <battuta> it was long, we wanted to release something

Uhm no. The sounds were from F.E.A.R.  Not the eye-pics.

You know what's funny about that, is that I went to register to find I was already registered.
I'm finishing up my FSOI now. :)

Re: Scariest moments in the Freespace universe.
The scariest ever was when the Ravana showed up in The Great Hunt. It was the first time I came up close to a ship of destroyer size.

It was like, everything was normal, our two corvettes just decimated everything that jumped in, until some ****ing monstrous hell of a ship jumped in... :shaking:

The scary part is that I came quite close to it. Being very misty, it was as if you were swimming underwater, when suddenly a Blue Whale appears, right in front of you.  :shaking:

I seriously thought there was some kind of a Boss Battle next, and that this warship...or so it seemed more like a monster...was behind all this racket. It looked just...invincible. I remember doing sort of a suicide run, just to increase the dramatic effect, towards it from under, firing all my lasers, missiles, EVERYTHING...I wanted to KILL THIS THING! It was, however, impossible to stop, given my weapons. So I just...jumped out.

The briefing that followed it didn't seem very dramatic, I expected more of a "we have encountered a gigantic warship earlier, whose intimidating appearance has caused utter terror and shock to our fellow pilots. We are now scrambling all available warships in the vicinity and the surrounding systems and are preparing a mass attack. The capabilities of this warship exceed any of which we have known. The destruction of this target, if and only if indeed we succeed, will deal a devastating blow to the Shivan advance" kind of speech.

However, it was more like a "we've encountered a new type of destroyer. Now get back to work and we'll send wingmen with you. Just destroy that warship." speech, which sort of sounded anti-climactic.

The "Dive Dive Dive" thing pretty sure surprised me, but was no reason to be scared of...on the first attempt, I even escaped it, unlike some of you .

The Sathanas' appearance didn't scare me, as it was predictable that a "Juggernaut" would appear as I've read in the Internet. In other words, I already expected a huge Shivan ship to appear in the game.

Another memorable one was in the Procyon Insurgency. I just had to destroy that hell of a super-powered Hades. At that time my skill level wasn't good, and I hadn't much experience with battling massive capital ships yet, so I ended up cheating by just simply spamming Helii on it.

After a tough, hot battle, I thought it was over. The destroyers nearby were powering their main guns, and fired their epic beam cannons which shred apart the seemingly invincible ship...

...until.... :nervous:...

...there was this cinematic, of Dasmar's ship blasting in a majestic fireball...but wait...

...the Knossos is spinning rapidly...faster...faster...faster....hell faster still...there's something going on...something terrible has to come out of that mad portal.... :nervous:

...WHOOSH! A ****ing colossal Inferno Ancient-esque warship appears! What is this monstrosity!  :shaking:

...and I have to destroy it! Destroy THAT!  :eek2:
With the rapid increase of FS fan-made campaigns, we're giving the GTVA a harder time with more violence and genocide.
