FS3 rumors?

I'm betting it's just left-overs from the whole 'collapse of Interplay' thing. The rights have essentially been on offer since they went belly-up.

Apparently there was an interview (before Fs3 was ruled out as a possibility) where he alluded to ships large enough to have their own gravity fields.  But not much else AFAIK.  They do, purportedly, have a rough story bible somewhere for the series.

wouldn't we be among the first to know (outside of developer studio and so on) if fs3 was really going to happen?

Probably not, actually. More likely they'd go to one of the big gaming news sites first.

While I'd love an FS3, I don't think it'd be great for the community itself...I mean, we'd lose the closeness after we got OMGPWND by a massive influx of noobs, and all mod projects would automatically be outdated/incorrect.
Still, it'd be nice to have the story continue, and have a new engine to play with :D

It'd be interesting to see if any Freespace 3 Engine could outstrip the FSO engine.

Sounds like a lot of BS to me. They have just taken several random games and basically said "looks like this has potential for a sequel!" :p
