Trivial Psychic should be TBP's official tech support dude.  We could even give you a 1-800 number so you could be on call 24/7.  Sounds good, doesn't it?  :D

Re: Please help to fix this problem
i cant find anyfiles with that name, i have installed all the patches

That's because the file is compressed in an archive that the game expands into memory.

Re: Please help to fix this problem
I've got abit of a problem, I downloaded what I believe is the standalone version (3.3) (Retail installed not required?) However when I install to any folder (default or otherwise) They is nothing in that folder execpt the uninstall.exe from the installer. Secondly the patch is extremely confusing, I understand you extract it to the main dir, but theres so many exe's and no launcher that I have no idea what I am ment to run.

Re: Please help to fix this problem
I've not heard that 3.3 is the standalone so far...
You have to download 3.2 first and than you have to install 3.3 to the directory where you got 3.2... after that you'll have to patch that with the 3.3a patch to get it working...
THERE IS NOT FS2 RETAIL VERSION REQUIRED TO PLAY TBP ANYMORE!!!

to the many .exes:
all fs_openXXXXXX.exe are the game .exes (which need to be configured before running by a launcher which is included to the 3.2 package)
all fred_openXXXX.exe are the mission editor

/EDIT: I just read that the 3.2 link at Stargame could be broken...

I see, and is there a mirrior to these needed files?

Re: Please help to fix this problem
Hi there,

Sorry to drag this thread up again, but I've been having the exact same problem as the first poster. I've followed the instructions for the fix (Or at least I thought I did  ::)  ) but now every time I open the launcher, I get a 'Failed to read flag file' error message and the game wont run.

I'm running a 3Ghz P4 with XP Pro, and the FSO version is fs2_open_Red_2005-12-22-P4_r.exe

Any help on this would be hugely appreciated as I'd love to give this a go.

This is not TBP specific problem. Pointing Finger of Blame +1 turns towards SCP.
My advice to you is useh teh friggin' search. :D
There's dozens of threads in the sourcecode boards related to this problem, do a search. Or just go to the Source code boards and read the sticky thread called Solution: "Failed to read flag file" :P

I am very experienced in using a variety of forums including moderating on some rather large ones so believe me, I spent a good while 'useh teh friggin' search' assuming that's meant to be 'using the friggin' search'. Simply pointing out that there was a thread somewhere I may not have seen it (being a newbie to this particular forum) would have sufficed, or possibly actually being helpful and providing a link to the board you mention.

I know that. But at least for me, it gives plenty of results when searching for "Failed to read flag file"...

And I didn't meant to offend you in any way by throwing the search phrase at you. Every newbie is bound to get it sooner or later. Anyway, have you found the sticky thread in the Source Code Project forums? That should help in your problem.

Re: Please help to fix this problem
I did find the sticky and I have installed the OpenAL software. Now I get an error box that says 'Unrecognized command line parameter -tbp, continue?' if I continue get the flash screen come up and then right back to square one with the original error message.

I've tried various options offered under the browse tab on the launcher, in fact, if I try to run the game from the launcher, I get a windows error box that forces the whole game to shut down.

Open the launcher and go to the features tab. Copy and paste everything in the greyed out box that shows your command line for us to take a look at it.
