This question is being asked mainly cos of the immenant release of the B5 mod.

As some have probably seen the size of the files that are already availabe are huge for ppl with 56k modems etc (up to 38Mbs).

When I try to download large files it often doesn't work cos I get disconnected or whatever.  But a friend of mine showed me a piece of software that allowed users to partially download files and come back later and finish the dowload whenever they wanted even if the connection is lost unexpectedly.

At the time I thought it was good but never gave it much further thought, but with the B5 mods coming out I wondered if anyone new the names of similar software and where it can be downloaded.  This would make the mod far more accessible to people with slow or unreliable connections...and I REALLY WANT THAT MOD!

GetRight is the best and simplest to use. Thou it's only shareware...the free part is the downloading on demand and reconnecting,...you just have to pay to get to be able to set up a sch for DLs....ie...at midnight log me onto the net,...begin to download the following files then,...then disconnect from the net and shut my computer down.

GetRight rules in the realm of features and configurability, IMHO. Just don't get GoZilla, as it includes spyware, and has been bloated and turned into a user-interface nightmare...

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. Sandwich is right, GoZilla used to be okay, but now it has been accelerated into the halls of crappiness. Gave my spyware that I had to format to get rid of because I didn't know any other way at the time. I use GetRight, I bought it. Very useful.

I've heard of GetRight but never used it. However, I may use it for the B5 mods.

Download Accelerator is great for DSL/Cable+ users because of the speed increase. Be warned though: It tends to corrupt larger files when piecing them together, and it is spyware.

Yeah, I was using Download Accelerator a while back, as it was the only one (at the time) that downloaded multiple streams of the file to maximise the bandwidth. GetRight has that feature, in spades. And, it's just a better program in general.

Go!Zilla 3.5 runs like a dream for me after a rather shaky start. If you delete the spyware that gets put on there with it it'll run fine.

Umm, Getright is also spyware.

goto www.thescreensavers.com  and run a search for spyware removal.  They've got a link to a spyware killer.  DAP is NOT SPYWARE!  I use it all the time and my firewall hasn't reported a single attempt to report any stats.

Programs that keep track of what you do and where you go, and report those statistics to the company.

Shouldn't it be banned or something? Its infringing on people's privacy. Why is it allowed to be produced at all?? Crap man!!!

I guess theres something in the user agreement that means their allowed to use spyware or something similar, or else the companies that made it would've been sued to hell by now.

But spyware doesn't bug me because its there - it bugs me because it uses system resources and bandwidth that I need for other things.
