God damn, how I wish I lived in the UK
Just so I could go see this. Honestly.... HOW! I mean, Tool, Metallica, Deftones, Guns N' Roses (say what you will about them I don't care) Prodigy, Cradle of Filth, Hatebreed and numerous others..... It's INSNANE. Not only that, but maddening that here in the US you would never, *ever* see that kind of a lineup. Hmmm.. I gots to go mug me an old, rich person...

*Eyes get wide*

Any of you Brits have an extra room about the house?  I don't eat much, I should be gone in a couple of days.  I'll even bring my own sheets and pillows. :D

If Axl Rose even bothers to show up, I'll pretty much die of shock.

Seems like Tool may be playing the "busy beavers" role this summer... I should be seeing them at Hammersmith Apollo in June... they're rumored to be playing Reading this year and now it seems they're confirmed for Download as well.

Festivals this year sure seem to look like they're having good lineups.

Yeah, you'd just have to pay 300 for an ID card to prove your age to be able to get into the concert. :p

On a somewhat related note, I just heard news about Rock In Rio Lisbon. Why the hell don't they call it Rock In Lisbon? For the Flying Spaghetti Monster's sake!
Probably away. Contact through email.

I have it on good authority a Tool gig gets boring after a while. Something I find very easy to believe, and I like most of their stuff.

Well, to each their own. I've seen them five times myself, and each time it's something new and interesting. I, personally, don't think that they get boring at all...

And to give you guys a taste of what Tool sounds like live, clicky click The sound may be a bit off on some songs because its a fan recording, but otherwise it is a damned good one. Gives you an idea how awsome they sound live.

Re: God damn, how I wish I lived in the UK
Agreed, of course it's a matter of taste.

I remember the first time I saw Tool at Brixton Academy (UK), I hadn't really had much experience of gigs at all. I was seated with a friend and spent a very pleasent couple of hours being totally blown away by the audio/visual combination. Nothing I've seen since has come close.

That said - their songs are quite long. From that point of view you might well get tired of hearing them after a while.

Oh, and an ammendment. Apparently Tool aren't playing Reading this year. That said I got this information from the same person who told me they were so I really don't know what to think.

Re: God damn, how I wish I lived in the UK
ive seen both tool and metallica live before. tool was more of a light show than a concert. i no longer consider myself a tool fan and wrote them off as emo crap. metallica was a good concert. saw that one in ancorage. i took advantage of the poor security to make it down to the floor crom my cheap seat. i ended up watching the whole show 15 heads from the stage. though theese days i think of metallica in the same light as tool. its just not as heavy as it used to be. i wouldnt mind seeing cluch, cof and soulfly though. still even thats not on par with my current tastes. prettymuch 90% of what i listen to is norwigian black metal and the other 10% being viking/folk and progressive metal.  now i wouldnt mind spending a year hitchiking around scandinavia going to as many metal concerts as i can. that would be cool.

Emo crap? How do you figure that? Seems kinda like calling Britney Spears a moody blues artist...

Re: God damn, how I wish I lived in the UK
agreed there first 2 or 3 albums were metal but they changed considerably with lateralus. hell they didnt even use the f word on that album, a stark contrast to their previous work.  i liked tool long before the hordes of kids ruined it for me. it was also the first and only concert ive been to that didnt sell beer. to add insult to injury, they had a no re-admitance policy, which ment we couldnt hit up a bar durning the intro band's performance. thus ruining the whole evening.

with this image on the semi-offitial tool site makes me seriously question their metal status.

seriously ive seen grunge bands with more balls.
they are pulling the same thing metallica did trying to score new fans by tapping the teen crowd and in the process crap on people who were there from day one. crap like this is why my musical tastes have shifted to the underground. bands who arent trying to sell records or out-do anyone but rather trying to express themselves in a non-manipulated manor. nothing kills a good band like fame.

Re: God damn, how I wish I lived in the UK
Wouldn't you say that the problems you had with beer and readmission were down to the venue.. not the band that were playing there?

As for not using the f-word in music - I don't find that necessary to enjoy the music. Tool never struck me as a band who were out to prove themselves the hardest or toughest group around...

That said, each to their own. I'm not going to try and convert you back :)

it was held in a sports arena, sports arenas certanly have the capabilities of alchohal distribution. of course it was right after 911 so there were metal detectors and extra security around. none the less it had nothing to do with my dismissal of the band.

as for the f word it just made me feel something was missing, or an outside force was interfering with the band. lyrical themes had also changed considerably. i agree tool never tried to be hard or tough. there somewhat unique use of foul language is something i found clever. it just stoped being what it used to be. i still think theyre a skilled bunch of musicians, they have an awesome drummer, and have done some rather technical guitar work. maynards vocals have always been good. none the less it no longer suits my ever changing pallette. il still give em another chance when they put out a new album. but i remain skeptical as weather il like it or not.
