Actually....

Only the wireframe layer (yes, it was post production) was set to screen. That just made it look more like a glow than a physical frame.
To blend the two parts, I used layer masks with diagonal gradients, with the mask of the wireframe inversed from the mask of the ship, so the wireframe showed up exactly in those places where the ship was hidden.

EDIT: To be honest, I've had the picture of the Finger (aka. Keyhole) Nebula on my HD since April 29th, 2000 - so I think that was before it got to WS....

I was just TM'ing the "Finger" moniker - not the picture. The picture is actually TM'ed by God. But let's not get into that again...
