The BACC currently lists "bloody" as its 27th ranked most offensive word, behind "crap" and just ahead of "God".

Other words on the BACC's current banned list include bastard (6th), bollocks (8th), bugger (21st), sodding (24th) and Jesus Christ (25th).

LoL behind crap? What's so offensive about crap?
I'm mostly surprised at bullocks though.

Now there's a list I can make use of!  In fact, here it is.

and the top 10 (er, 28) is;
Quote
1/ ****
2/ Mother****er (c)Samuel L. Jackson, forever
3/ ****
4/ Wanker
5/ Nigger (wait, less offensive than 'Wanker'?)
6/ Bastard
7/ Prick
8/ Bollocks
9/ Arsehole
10/ Paki (see 5)
11/ Shag (shag?!  It's a type of cormorant, you fools!)
12/ Whore
13/ Twat
14/ Piss off (:wtf:)
15/ Spastic (apparently telling people to piss off is more offensive than having a go at the disabled)
16/ Slag (-120 places for Haghill)
17/ ****
18/ Dickhead
19/ Pissed off (:wtf: x 2)
20/ Arse (pff.  A great word, and without the animal-body part ambiguity of 'ass')
21/ Bugger
22/ Balls (um......really, I'd use the wtf smily if it wasn't tired out by now)
23/ Jew (yep, you heard it here first - some people are actually offended at the name of a religion)
24/ Sodding (as in sodding wet?)
25/ Jesus Christ (see 23, I guess)
26/ Crap
27/ Bloody (yay!)
28/ God

Shockingly, the next page goes on to explain that old people are more likely to be offended by words like '****' or religious epiphets.  Well, **** me sideways and call me Dale, I'd never ever have guessed that!

Interestingly, older people are less likely to be offended by the likes of spastic or nigger.

From which we can all deduce that these types of surveys are a) pointless in 97.25% of occasions and b) effective in identifying at least 5% of moany bastards who should really learn the world has changed.

Oh, and it's bollocks, bytheway, not bullocks.

Maybe we should try having more 18 year ambassadors. Might be able to clear up all the worlds problems by next Tuesday :D

Let's send Charlotte Church* to North Korea!

Not as an ambassador or anything, of course.

*yes, I know it's not quite the right age group

I'll vote for that.

As for that list.. thats completely insane, there really isn't any point in rating words on a scale of whats most offensive anyway. Words are just that, words. They'll have different meanings to different people. But as a side note, british curse words are really the best there is  :D

LoLs.
Hehe, **** is probably one of the more offensive words here too, yet its used quite often with standard bloke talk at the pub. :p

Sure thing... Dale... :nervous:

I'll have to partially disagree there Zuljin, what other country can claim dingleberry, mug head, backwards, cud chomper, and other such splendid and original words as taunts. :p

Agreed on the Paris Hilton suggestion. ;)

It's funny, since theres probably not one person in the entire country that doesn't use at least three words from that list per day. Except possibly Jew, I have never, in my entire life heard someone say 'Oh Jew!' or 'You know what you are, you're a complete Jew!'. I can't for the life of me figure out what it's doing in that list!

Completeness, I guess.  What gets me is that somehow, "piss" makes the list twice.  Is it specific uses of "piss" that this organization claims to be offensive, or was the survey written by demented three-headed monkeys?  Because I'm banking on the latter.

THE face of Australia's latest tourism campaign will appear topless in a new men's magazine.

...
"We've been deluged by calls from our readers demanding we feature her on our cover," Merrill said.

"Well, here she bloody well is."

I think that issue of the magazine may be quite popular... :p

The editor of Zoo Weekly Paul Merrill said he was thrilled to have "scooped the world" with the shots of Bingle, which were taken six months ago when she was unknown.

Bingle will appear on the front cover of the magazine and features in a shoot wearing five different bikinis.

She is topless in one shot but her breasts are not visible.

I remember at summer camp one year, one of the counselers was British or something like that. I had this gigantic bleeding cut, and I said " Aww man, this cut is so bloody," and he got all pissed off at me.

Also, why is 'bloody' such a bad word? Does it mean something other than 'coated with blood'? Can someone enlighten me, please?

EDIT:

I, er, actually have heard someone do that at secondary school.  Not me, I hasten to add, but some wee twat who with all justice is now working as a binman.

Yeah, calling something Jewish can be an insult at my high school. But then again, my school's mostly populated by hicks. :blah:

I love how "bloody" is behind "crap" (so does this make Zenigata from Lupin the 3rd a profane person? :p) and just ahead of "God."  Hmm, so apparently, the word used to describe what many people consider an omnipotent benevolent being is right up there with schoolyard insults.  Makes you wonder... :p

I dont know which to laugh louder at: the comments in this thread about the news articles, or the news article itself.

Always good to have a dashing good bit of humour at the brit's expense, though :p

You have to take it in the possible context, though; some people (i.e. nutcases) find 'oh my God' or soforth to be blasphemous and thus offensive.
