Help please: Problem with device drivers
Ever since I got this rig it's had the following problem, but nothing seemed to bad on it so I haven't done anything about it till now - as I think it's the source of some slow disk access problems I sometimes get.

If anyone can tell me where to find the drivers for these devices, or what part of the computer they relate to - I'd be very greatful. Thanks...

Why don't you disable the devices from the Device Manager and see what happens... I'd assume that if something went wrong you could safe-mode and put them back on.

That mass storage controller is probably a raid port/card which you probably dont need..

Or it could be an ATA100 controller.

So the drivers are probably going to be on the CD that came with the mobo?

Probably.
Try the manufacturer's site (or chipset maker's) for newer drivers.

Hope this helps.

Uhhhhh
Did anything happen to make this get like this?  (i.e.:  Power surge; power outage (even if you have a surge protector or UPS)
That can do that,.

Otherwise... has it always been like that in your computer? or have you just now noticed it?  or did it just happen?

Anything you've done to it lately? (i.e. new hard drive, new PCI or AGP or ISA card, even something as small as a new motherboard battery or new RAM)

Let me know

Oh, and what OS are you running?  Is that Win 2000P?

Also, are you doing anything unusual with your computer? (i.e. using as a server, on a network, etc.)

Well, if you know the company that made the products, I'd say go to www.driverguide.com

use the login: drivers

password: all

(they send that to everyone, I'm just saving you from being added to the mailing list...)

It is somewhat helpful... but it depends on if the company is willing to fix their page...

Thanks for your help guys, and to answer Mystical...

I use the rig for rendering, games and internet surfing... nothing weird there

It's running Win98 and has the following specs:

Quote
AMD Athlon T-Bird 1.4GHz 266
256Mb PC2100 DDR RAM
ABit KG7 Motherboard
40Gb IBM 7200RPM Hard Disk
3 1/2 inch floppy drive
16x Pioneer DVD (40x CD)
CD-RW (16x RD, 4x Write, 4x Re-Write)
Saitek Cyborg 3D Joystick (for us southpaws)
Epson Stylus Colour 800 printer
Cambridge Soundworks 4.1 surround speaker
Videologic Sonicfury sound card
US Robotics Sportster Flash 56K modem
Standard Windows Keyboard
Microsoft Optical intellimouse
Hercules Prophet GeForce2 64Mb GTS
20 inch (viewable) Sony Trinitron Multiscan 20sf II monitor.

Edit: I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with it recently, no power surges (to my knowlege) and it's been like this ever since the rig was delivered. This makes me think they simply didn't install the drivers before shipping.

That'll be your ATA system (probably 100, but it could be 66 - not sure on your MB).

Huh, if your motherboard has the via chipset in it, update drivers. Try to update motherboard bios!

I believe that board has an AMD761 chipset in it.  Anyways, goto abit's site and download the drivers for it. (I think its abit-usa.com or something...)

What bios version do you have? If it's old, you can always try flashing it.

The motherboard was amongst the first to hit the shores of the UK... it should be pretty up to date...

Development keeps going even after the board's been released - also, your ATA controller will have its own drivers.

How will exposing yourself to a computer fix the problem?

Just for some prespective:

I bought the 3D Prophet 4500 when it first came out.  When I got home and checked the Hercules website, there were already two revisions of drivers!

Just because its brand spanking new when you got it doesn't mean there aren't new drivers available.
