Well, I'm not sure what to make of this. I visited the german Wiki entry for Freespace

Gegen Ende des Jahres 2005 tauchten im Internet erste Gerüchte und auch Fakten auf, dass bald mit der Realisierung von Freespace 3 begonnen werden soll. Im Januar 2006 waren die Verhandlungen zwecks Lizenzerwerbs von Freespace von der Firma Derek Smart mit der Firma Interplay. Im März 2006 tauchten im Internet bereits mehrere Beschreibungen über die Story von Freespace 3 auf.
Die Story von Freespace 3 ist 6 Jahre später nach der Capella Supernova aus Freespace 2 angesiedelt. Im Zentrum der Handlung steht ein junger 24 jähriger Pilot names Jack. Dieser ist auf der GTD Aquitaine beim 53. Hammerheads Geschwader stationiert. Die GTD Aquitaine ist zu Beginn des Spiels für die Überwachung des Baus eines neuen Sprungknotens zur Erde abkommandiert. Als dieser Sprungknoten fertiggestellt ist, bricht die Aquitaine zur Erde auf und stellt so den seit 39 Jahren ersten Kontakt wieder her. Leider ist noch unklar, ob der offene Handlungsstrang aus Freespace 2 in Bezug auf das Überlaufen von Admiral Bosch der Neoterranischen Front zu den Shivanern aufgeklärt wird, da es für dieses nie wirklich bei Freespace 2 eine Erklärung gab.
Mehr Einzelheiten sind noch nicht bekannt, so dass die Handlung sich bis zum Release durchaus noch ändern kann.
Ein Release Datum von Freespace 3 liegt vermutlich nicht vor Ende 2007.I'm too lazy right now to do a complete translation, but it says that after the rumours about Derek Smart acquiring the Freespace IP, he actually got them from Interplay in January 2006. And in Match 2006 (that would be now), first details about the storyline turned up on the internet.
The short summary about the story is nothing spectacular: The player is stationed on the Aquitaine, 6 years after the Capella incident, just when the newly built subspace gate to Earth goes online (sounds familiar?).
Now, I hope this is all a bad joke. I couldn't find any news about DS and Freespace3 from this year, only older stuff from the time after the big Derek Smart incident here. But if he actually got the license, I won't be able to sleep peacefully....
Who wrote that entry ? It might be someone from here, since there are links to the SCP site, HLP and TBP.
Has anybody heard any new rumours about that ?
