Is it just me, or wouldn't it be really hard for more than one Zod to fit into the Isis.

What the hell is a Zod?

It means Vasudan. It used to be a typical expression when I was a lurker (for over a year and a half), but recently it has declined in usage.

If you look closely, you can see the pilots IIRC.  At least you can see where the cockpit should be, and it's pretty huge relative to the ship itself.  How entire combat teams fit inside it is a bit of a mystery.

Edit: Oh wait, that's not the Isis, is it.  Still, it's a tiny craft.

I also always thought that the Isis is too small for what it's supposed to be. It's smaller than even the Horus.

You can put up a Ra next to an Isis in FRED2 to estimate about how many Vasudans would fit in an Isis. I can't see how it would be more than 6 or so at the most.

The size of it becomes obvious in that FS1 mission where you have to capture the traitor McCarthy, and an Elysium comes to dock with the Rasputin.

I found the size of all ships in FS to be too smal...
A Fenris cruiser is supposed to be 250m long, which as big as a WW2-era battleship(which is huge) but it looks so small.

  • A one hit wonder, you still want to touch this.
Maybe it's about the perspective you're given from your fighter.
The fighters are pretty big, i mean bigger than f-16's and stuff.
One thing i don't see is how an orion is supposed to hold 10000 people.
I mean, star trek's enterprise is more reasonable with having 1000 people.
If an orion had that many aboard it'd make more sense, especially for a hecate.
As far as a how big a fenris is actually supposed to be, just look at the size of the windows, the place where the dish is like the command center on it.
But, yeah, the fighters are pretty big, they're no where near compact at all.
Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

I don't see why it's so hard to believe. The US Nimitiz class carriers have a crew of around 5000 and they're 300+ metres long.

Also, an orion is 3 times longer than the federations bigest starhip, and has a crew of 3000.

Someone (Bobboau I beleive) once rendered 10 000 people next to an orion (to scale). They were miniscule in comparison.

Consider - you lay 10000 people (1.8 m approx) out, head to toe, they're 18km long. Divide that into 9 columns laying shoulder to shoulder (at best about 6m wide or so) and you could fit them into a single deck of an Orion, with masses of room to spare on that one deck alone (as the orion is considerably more than 6m wide.

Infact, with only 10000 people on board, vast amounts of the Orion would be completely deserted most of the time.

I suppose the Isis is larger than, say, a station wagon, I don't think the Vasudans are to-scale in the GVEP Ra. 10,000 people could easily fit in an Orion, if every deck was three meters, the Orion would have over 100. The Ra is in the wiki: (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/GVT_Isis)

Now that I think about it, the worst part about any destroyer is the fact that the escape pods only hold 20 people, in order to evacuate the entire crew, you'd need 500 of them, where a few GTM Hippocrates medical frigates would suffice

my opinion is that because of the limitations of the original FS engine didn't let them make ships like the Fenris bigger. i say it could be done now, there'd just have to be a massive texture overhaul. :nervous:

speaking of an outer space city, it'd be cool to live in one. Pretty much all the comforts of a planet, with low gravity goodness!
