Bad news people. After I upgraded my PC I found out that my smaller HDD (specificly one partittion on it) is rather screwed up.
You see, I have 2 HDD's.
One 30GB (5bg windows partittion and 25BG partittion for Truespace, 3D MAx, Photoshop and some games and mods) and one 80GB one (movies, music, downloads and other)

Before I took it to be upgraded I did som partittion resizing (something I did X times without any problems). However, a bad sector was encountered and hte process was aborted. Since I  was running late to catch a bus I hadn't given it much tought. Big mistake.

Right about now my smaller HDD is totaly f*** up! I can't acess any data on the 25gb partittion.
Yes, that's right - it includes ALL of my models, textures, mods, campaigns and practicly everything...
My back-ups are old to say the least. The most recent ones I put on my webspace (FS2 campaign stuff and latest missions, EV Nova mod, A big modeldump in Freelancer format, etc..) but the webspace is gone...

I'll look into restoring the files on the disk, but if I fail, than it's a big loss...  and my HTL Demon was so close to completion (I was following Vasudan Admiral's sketch).

Another thing is that I'm currently without a internet connection on my PC...new motherboard and my old modem seem to be incompatible..
On the upside the new machine operates wickedly and BOTF2 and Oblivion run smoothly...

Owch indeedsies. =/

Get a microscope and try and read the 1's and 0's off the disk?

Ah, sounds like you've been using Partition Magic. Luckily I don't think it moves data around before the drive is scanned, so it might just be a corrupt partition table that needs fixing. Hopefully this will help:

If you can get your hands on a Knoppix CD or DVD, Boot from it and start in a root console: testdisk. The tool is able to find old partition data even if you overwrote it.
Good luck.

If a bad sector is reported, you may just be outta luck, meaning that the physical disk platter has a problem with it.  If so, get as much data off of the drive and then chuck it, throw it away, as it's something you DO NOT want to rely on.  If the bad sector doesn't sit on the MBR, or the FAT, you should be able to recover the data around the bad sector without too much trouble.  It's hella easy to do with FAT16/32, but considerably more difficult with NTFS.  I'm guessing you're using a Windows environment here.. if it's Linux, I have no freakin idea.  I actually had this same problem this weekend, my SD card in my Pocket PC which held a few class notes and assignments that were due soon mysteriously erased itself. Since it was formatted with the FAT16 filesystem, I was able to restore all of the assignments using demo software available on the net cause all the files I absolutely had to have were under 64K.

Backup dudes! Backup!

Why is Jesus not annoyed when his disk heads crash? Because Jesus saves, that's why.

Seriously though. People are putting far too much trust in a technology that irrespective of quality has a reasonably high likelyhood of failing within 5 years. Considering how long it takes to get your average to large sized mod out the door that's potentially a major loss.

Tell me about it. Since I work at tech support, every now and then someone from some small business comes and complains that they've lost thousands of euros because their computer hardware failed. They're idiots who don't understand that computers are mechanical devices which may break the next minute, businesses should always have backup computers which already have the business critical software installed and backups.

In fact, I had one of these cases yesterday. This time they had a bloody consumer PC, a HOME PC for gods sake!

WEll, I'm internet capable again..

The disk is stil lscrewed up... error checker and windows checkdisk can't do nothing (file opened or RAW format messages), so I decided to go to the source..

I just downloaded Maxtors MaxBlast tool and I'll see if I'll get any data out...

If  you don`t have success with that tool. You should seriously try Knoppix and testdisk. As long as you just changed the partition-tables, your data is still intact and since testdisk can handle NTFS, you should be fine.

That's hoping that the bad sectors on the disk don't lie where the partition tables are.  If that's happened, well.. there's not much more you can do.
