No, this thread isn't about what you thnk it's about.  :p

Back when B5 was airing, I made a point of recording and archiving every single episode on VHS tape. Yes I was that big of a B5 fanboy. Being able to chat personally with JMS on the GEnie forums was cool too.

Anyway, doing some spring cleaning this weekend, I come across the box of B5 tapes... and I force myself to admit that this is 50 pounds of VHS tapes that I'm never going to watch again, especially now that the entire series is out on DVD. So I'm pitching it, along with a pile of other old movies that I recorded off cable before I had the financial means to simply buy them-- including my copy of Heavy Metal that I taped off Showtime years before it was officially available on home video.

So farewell, old mountain of tapes! It goes against every fibre of my packrat being, but old crap has to go to make room for the new.

Anyone else dealt with this sort of thing lately?

It's even worse for me. I came to the series late so I bought season 1 to 3.

Pfft. Trying moving from a largeish house with a basement and garage full of stuff to a two bedroom apartement.

I think my family redefines the phrase "collection of useless crap", most of which I don't want to throw out for sentimental reasons. For a while, there were three basement storage lockers, one rented storage room and an apartement absolutely full of stuff. It's only after getting rid of the big things like the washing machine, fridge and so on that the rented storage got cleared out, and now it's only down to the three lockers.

edit: why don't you put those B5 tapes up on Ebay? Someone's bound to buy them.

Yep. I've been meaning to do that for ages. But I'm lazy :) Although when you can buy the entire season on DVD for £20 I'm unlikely to get that much money for them.

As far as I'm aware, selling duplicates of copyrighted material is against eBay policy.

Ahh, nostalgia.

I just recently unplugged my VHS recorder from the TV, it's collecting dust in the basement for now.
It's been replaced by one of those cheap DVD players, that can also read CDs with DivX/XviD (including seperate subtitles in srt/sub format).

I don't think I'll ever watch a VHS tape again.

I've been steadily getting rid of my STargate seasons as I get them on DVD...I also got rid of my Animorphs books not too long ago.

I've got a lot of Star Wars and Battletech books that I don't really read anymore, but they're all classics to me...

I guess i'm doing the contemporary equivalent to hoarding VHS tapes, as i've got the entire run of Battlestar Galactica copied conveniently to my HDD... acquired *cough* legally of course...

I'm not sure, to be honest.  When I say sitting in a cupboard somewhere, I mean it literally - I have no idea where the bloody things are.  Offhand, Body Harvest, Starfox64, Banjo Kazooie, Extreme-G, Fighters Destiny, OoT, Diddy Kong Racing, F1 Racing Championship (UK), Top Gear Rally, ISS64, ISS98, Turok 2, and World Driver Championship are probably amongst it.  But I wouldn't sell it trans-atlantic anyways (I'm not sure I would sell it; it's a nice piece of gaming history).I'm not sure which games we kept versus which we swapped.  regrettably, I think we swapped Goldeneye for OoT (both ace, but you'd rather have both).
