When I say sitting in a cupboard somewhere, I mean it literally - I have no idea where the bloody things are.
Then you mean figuratively. If they were literally in a cupboard somewhere, you'd just have to search your cupboards to find them.

You've not seen the state my cupboards are in.  If you want to be pedantic (rhetorical question), I know where they are within a large subset of possible places, but not the exact physical location in terms of the holding cupboard nor the location within that cupboard.  Thus the exact location is unknown to me, hence 'sitting in a cupboard somewhere'.

And don't you have something better to do?

No.

And who the heck has cupboards outside their kitchen anymore?

No.

And who the heck has cupboards outside their kitchen anymore?

Cupboard.  Noun.
A small room (or recess) or cabinet used for storage space.

Yeah I recently did the same thing...had all the TV shows and movies save one episode from season 1 on tape.  But the tapes were dying from overuse and normal degradation and I have all of the DVD's now.

Ah, the fun of American English vs. the world.

It's wise to consider the possible nationality of the speaker before making smart-arse pedantic comments.

I wasn't referring to your English. I was referring to ZylonBane's, and your efforts to correct him. It would be his English, and you would be representative of the world.

Cupboards are in kitchens. Closets, wardrobes, and cabinets are similar storage units situated elsewhere in a dwelling.

At least, that's how American/International English has it. :D What's your definition for those things?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Informal definition; standard commonwealth english usage.  Y'know, as comes from the island that invented the language and had this big empire a while back.

Formal; I think it was the princeton webby-thing.  Also the Collins online dictionary.
