You all realize that "Revolution" would be impossible? It's unpronouncable in Japanese.

I put the blame for this squarely on Japan. Everything wierd and tacky on this planet comes from that infernal place. I prefered them when they fanatical militarists, running around poking things with swords for the glory of the Emperor. Now...now the country is just a high-tech pop-culture acid trip.

One day, Japan...one day.

Well, I haven't see Nintendo doing something so stupid since they launched the Nintendo Virtual Boy and then to make it worse the Pokemon-Mini...

You mean Godzilla's strike over NY ?, that never happened, it was a movie. Nintendo, and it's famous Famicom (Family Computer) comes from that infernal place, about 1979, I was never impressed with that later NES that was manufactured in US 6 years later...

Not true at all, the blame goes to Nintendo, they could have just select a good name different to Revolution, years ago there were different naming schemes for the same model of console being manufactured in different regions while the model have some slightly variations in shape, the cartridges and CDs were universal.

And at least half of the Japanese games were never ported to any other region than Japan...that, if you don't consider the consoles that were manufactured and distributed only in Japan.

Re: Nindendo marketing strangles Revolution at birth
Just to clarify this matter:

Quote
The Imperial household

The Imperial Palace in Tokyo is the primary residence of the emperor. The Imperial Household of Japan is headed by the Emperor of Japan. The Constitution of Japan defines the emperor to be "the symbol of the state and of the unity of the people". He performs ceremonial duties and holds no real power; not even emergency reserve powers. Sovereignty is vested in the Japanese people by the constitution. Though his official status is disputed, on diplomatic occasions the emperor tends to behave (with widespread public support, it should be noted) as though he were a head of state. As of 2006 Japan is the only country in the world which is headed by an emperor.

Today, Japan is a major exporter of high-tech and pop culture, but you missed the part "with an emperor" (and the only country one)

Review (about the name):

Quote
On April 27, 2006, Nintendo changed the Revolution section of their official website, http://revolution.nintendo.com, to announce the official name of the system. Nintendo explained that:

"Wii sounds like 'we,' which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."

Nintendo spells "Wii" with two "i"s to create an image of players gathering together. The spelling also is intended to invoke the controllers the Wii uses.[6]

After announcing the name, some criticism was received from English speaking countries because Wii sounds like the English word "wee," an euphemism for "urine."[7] However, "wee" can also denote a meaning of "small", and Wii is the smallest console of the seventh generation. It can also be considered a homonym of a word suggesting a noise made when having fun (whee!). Additionally, Wii sounds similar to "yes" in French (oui), "good" in Japanese (いい, ii?) and "top" in Korean. In German-speaking countries the console's name will be pronounced "vee", similar to the German word for "how" (wie).

In you check the review it says "meaning of small", but just the word "small" is between quotes, so as already mentioned in this topic it's not just small, but "small"...

Re: Nindendo marketing strangles Revolution at birth
The problem with Wii is simple.

It's a one syllable. Word. The first thing they teach you in marketing 101 is to NEVER use a one syllable word for a product.
See, folks; apparently, "Coke" is an absolute failure of a product name. :p
