"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Out of Order...

So... do models just vanish as soon as they're rendered? All I ever see are ones rendered and then never heard of again, ones used to p1mp campaigns that only rarely come out at all and terrible 2-year-old ones at most of the sites! Gimme gimme!

Hate the Traitor:
Better with Hercs- Myrmidons look too wierd in groups to get really nice renders

Most of the rest:
Bwarg? I don't get it...

And yes, a comment system would be nice, although odds are it would be immediately clogged when some idiot flooder found it...

And how DO you make those explosions? Either that is a... VERY nice particle generator or a long time on Photoshop, I can't tell which.

Glares at Setekh...

He uses his very own Spire to make explosions now - I swear that one day that kind of thing will be commercially available, but untill then the rest of us will have to sweat blood to do it to the same level of quality.

Ach. I assume he isn't interested in spreading the wealth. Oh well, RDS can do pretty much the same with a little trouble...

My heavily outdated modeling program. It's still much nicer than TrueSpace, but it's nearly friggin' impossible to get FS models into it properly, and even harder to go the opposite way, since it imports DXFs well and exports them horribly (or TS imports them badly, one or the other). My only current sample of its flame effect is this:

And I am still tinkering with it- it's not very easy to generate, and veeeeeerrrrryyyy slllooowww to render. It can, however, do something like Setekh's blasts when you view the flames from the top.
[EDIT: Dammit, where is that render...]

No, I can't remember the last time I posted something productive, mother.

only pb spire is for linux. When do you make a windows version?
alternative question: is there an efficient linux emulator for windows?

Ah. Linux. Never could tell whether it was any better or worse than Windows (not counting 2000, which... well, ask Zylon my opinion on Win2k .) Anyway, yes, there is an emulator, but it costs mioney, and I don't have money, so I always ignored it... poke around online for demos, maybe?

an emulator that costs money, that emulates a free OS... I wonder if I should   or
better make a dual boot I suppose...
Anyway, I never heard about Setkh giving Spire away, so it's talking for nothing :þ

Like I said- there are many things online besides hardcore porn, pictures of people's ugly babies, and game sites, if one looks deeply enough...

But yes, it appears to be a moot point.

Just a quick demo, I didn't toy with sizes or blast widths much, just to put up for comparison...

Oh, ok, one last (probably not) call for requests. Comments on the Array or not   I'm going to be expecting all of you on there if it goes ahead...

As for Spire - as a public program, it's got a long way to go before we even consider it worthy for others to use. Like I explained to The Avenger a while back, I just realised that there is no learning curve - for everyone except my brother and I, it's going to be a wall straight up   But in terms of features, I guess that's where it's strength is.

And if you've wanted to know, I've tried many times to port it to Windows - but I just gave up. It's bloody hard. And trust me, Thunder bugs me about it enough to make me try very frequently...

I'm going to re-work the code this weekend. Well, major chunks of it, anyway.
