The Sony conference just concluded.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/engadget-and-joystiqs-live-coverage-of-sonys-playstation-3-e3-ev

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98549&page=49

Nongame highlights:

HDD standard. No price announcement.

Games:

GTHD dissapoints, no modeled interiors, stiff crowds, low draw distance and pop-in, PGR3 looks better. Very quick loading times.

Heavenly Sword, looking REAALLLY nice.

Wierd card game, interesting concept, but looks like poor execution???

Singstar, for those that like it...

Formula 1, graphics are not outstanding but PSP integration to act as a wing mirror is cool if gimmicky.

Resistance: Fall of Man, graphics are Doom 3 level, rips a bunch of stuff from Halo (needler + flood), but has a bunch of crap happening at once.

I'm not going to comment on the non-live trailers that were shown.

Yeah, just saw that.

That's too much. North America is now going to be dominated by Microsoft or Nintendo.

$20 says the **** up distribution as bad or worse than MS...

People are flexible. You probably won't see quite the domination of the market that they've had in some of the earlier generations, but people will suck it up and buy the 20GB version, I'd say.

That's very optimistic. When the PS3 launches MS will have the advantage price wise.

The one thing that puts MS in a quandary is being the only one of the three without a motion sensitive controller.

I doubt we'll see much of a price drop by MS before November. They're probably already taking a loss.

Personally? I'm waiting at least a year or two to get a next-gen system. Until then, I'll just stick with my N64, PS2, and computer.

Seriously, I think Sony just shot themselves in the foot if you can get an X360 and a Wii for the price of a PS3.

Beats most console releases, Deepblue.

Honestly, the only option anyone has is to wait and see. Doomsaying or overoptimism won't help anyone.

Yes.

___

"Pursuant to the introduction of this new six-axis sensing system, the vibration
feature that is currently available on DUALSHOCK® and DUALSHOCK®2 controllers for
PlayStation and PlayStation®2, will be removed from the new PS3 controller as vibration itself interferes with information detected by the sensor."

...

"PS3 Tard pack = No wifi + No HDMI + No MemoryStick /SD/CompactFlash"

Without HDMI, Blu-Ray is as good as useless.

...

It also weighs 5 kg.

...

Only 4 USB ports rather than the original 6.

...

The case also got substantially larger than the model Sony touted last year.

Hardware downgrade confirmed.

This is from the official press release.

Actually, the vibration is out because someone else has a patent on it.

Thank the gods the vibration is finally out.

It only interfeirs with the gameplay, and you have to be substantially retarded to actually believe you're in the game when the **** shakes. I always have it off anyway, because it heavily cripples my gameplay. The exact same thing goes for joysticks.

That's why it's going to be a light joystick instead of the heavy batong it's been so far. Back to the old model, just with the analogue sticks this time. Old school, I welcome you with open arms.

As of March 2006, there are already over 230 PS3 games announced by multiple developers and publishers, like SCEI, Electronic Arts, Konami, Namco, Capcom, Square Enix, Microsoft, Sega and many others. As well as announced titles there are likely to be many 'secret projects' already under development.

Most developers have already announced games for the PS3. Some anticipated ones include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots , Killzone PS3, Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4, Silent Hill 5, Shin Megami Tensei, Armored Core 4 , Unreal Tournament 2007, Resistance: Fall of Man, Grand Theft Auto 4: Hawaii Luau (provisional title), Final Fantasy XIII, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Tekken 6.

At the E3 2005 Press booths, Sony showed some pre-rendered and some real-time videos of games in development with the codenames Eyedentify, Vision Gran Turismo and MotorStorm. Also shown at E3 was a Final Fantasy VII technical demo of the opening sequence remade for the PlayStation 3 system. Square Enix stated afterwards that there aren't any plans for a remake of Final Fantasy VII at the moment, but that there is, indeed, a Final Fantasy title in development for the PlayStation 3.[2] At this time, 3 games have been mentioned as PS3 launch titles: Lair from Factor 5, Warhawk from Incognito Entertainment, and Unreal Tournament 2007 from Epic Games.

All great known titles, but I would want to see Shin Megami Tensei (Atlus), Armored Core 4 (Agetec/From Software) and Sonic: Next Gen (Sega/Sonic Team)...

-------------------------------------------

Do any of you remember the times were Metal Gear story started over Microsoft console (one of the MSX models), it is really funny to see how all of this companies Microsoft, Nintendo, Sega and Sony have somewhat either were really close or even worked togheter (Nintendo and Sony did)

I intended this thread for the press conferences. If you wouldn't mind, you can start a different thread with a compilation of all the new screenshots released, etc.

Nuh... this makes me feel sick as I type this, but I agree with Deepblue about the pricing.

I mean, come on 600 for the premium pack. Thats a lotta money... I mean, one could go and get a pretty good mid-ranged PC for that price point, or hell, a 360 premium pack and three games and a second controller. And if the rumored 200-250 pricetag of a Wii is true, thats even worse news for Sony. I think with Sony charging that much for a system, the days of 60-70 dollar games are going to come to an end, because that is just insane to force that upon your consumer base.

I bet Nintendo is in panic mode about the controller, and M$'s response is going to be rather interesting.
