I'm ashamed to admit I never managed to play the Smash Bros games, but I intend to make up for that (DS version please?).

How about a Goomba?  Or Pikmin?  sonic?  (given the availability of some Megadrive games for the virtual console bit).  Toad?  Metal Mario?

Or how about a bloody great comedy Mech, just to throw people off? :D

I don't see much possibility of a DS version of SSB at all, considering the importance of analog control to the series. I cringe every time I hear someone suggest it would work. <_<

All I know is that it will be very interesting to see what other 3rd parties will make their way into this title (and other Ninty games as well). This trailer is just about all that exists of SSBB so far, meaning the slate is still very clean and will be able to incorperate any character desired, really.

Because of inclusion of the motion-sensing function, the rumble capability of the previous controllers was omitted, so as not to interfere with motion sensing.

EEH-AW!

Sony got sued by the owners of the rumble effect patent.  Who then got bought up by Microsoft.  Ergo, no rumble.

I did read that Warhawk was quite intuitive to play, though.  It's not a stunning looking game, albeit; generic shooty-ness.

Meh, Jigglypuff has a move where it falls asleep in SSB:Melee and it's basically an insta-kill. My roommate got it down to an art, pissing off everyone he played.  :p

And the PS3 controller doesn't have rumble feature with it's motion sensor, but the Wii remote does apparently. (sorry if this has already been stated)

It's always had that move. Still, it's a retarded character.

It's true, they have space left but they can't add the rumble feature due to legal issues with Immersion Corps.:

In 2002, Sony Computer Entertainment America, marketer of the popular PlayStation game consoles, was sued by Immersion Corp. of San Jose, California which claimed that Sony's PlayStation "Dual Shock" controllers infringed on Immersion's patents. In 2004, a federal jury agreed with Immersion, awarding the company US$82 million in damages. A U.S. district court judge ruled on the matter in March, 2005 and not only agreed with the federal jury's ruling but also added another US$8.7 million in damages. NB: Immersion Corp are apparently one of those utter-**** companies who make/made money just by registering patents and then suing as appropriate.  I'm not sure if they were bought up by Ms or just licensed to them, though, so I might need a bit of an EEh-AW myself on the latter fact.

That article was posted on April 1st.  :nervous:

Maybe I'll take apart a Gamecube controller and see if the design for rumble is similar (I've taken apart many a playstation controller).

I too have taken apart many a controller, using the method of high-speed impact.

MS and Nintendo payed the licensing fee, so they get to keep the rumble feature.

Are you sure?  I have a feeling Nintendo could cite prior art and comfortably defend themselves in court.

Well, in the actual conference there were the highlights of Heavenly Sword and MGS4. But the conference was so damn long that it was hard to remember them by the end.

Offline Grey Wolf

I liked Heavenly Sword and FFXIII, myself.

Immersion Corporation of San Jose, California, is a leader in developing, licensing, and marketing digital touch technology and products.

Founded in 1993, Immersion's technology is deployed across automotive, entertainment, medical training, mobility, personal computing, and three-dimensional simulation markets. Immersion's patent portfolio includes over 500 issued or pending patents in the U.S. and other countries.

In 2002, Sony and Microsoft were sued by Immersion for patent infringement for the use of vibration functions in their gaming controllers. Immersion's lead attorney in this case was Morgan Chu. While Microsoft settled out of court, Sony continued to defend the case. Sony lost, and was required to pay considerable royalties to Immersion and suspend the sale of the controllers, including all PlayStation and PlayStation 2 console packages containing them. Sony appealed this decision and was able to sell its products while the appeal was being heard. On March 12, 2006 Sony lost the appeal. Later, at E3 2006, Sony announced they have removed the vibration feature from the PlayStation 3 controller.

Here is an article from Wikipedia: "History of video game consoles (seventh generation)" which compare the consoles in a very detailed way, of course game developers have a lot of impact over the rating of the console, so it's not that determinant...:

Also includes handheld comparations over the Sony PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS Lite, Tiger Telematics (discontinued ?), the GP2X (GamePark 2X) and the upcoming GamePark XGP (awaited by a lot of people)

Quote from: Ars Technica

I'm inclined to argue that the controller's feature set is more determined by Immersion Corporation than Nintendo, and I also believe that Sony doesn't want to admit this. The very last-minute nature of Sony's moves do not lead me to believe that this has been planned for long. In fact, it seems like it was a surprise to nearly everyone. The question, to me, is when did Sony decide to drop DualShock? I suspect the decision was made in the aftermath of Sony's recent loss in court to Imersion, roughly two months ago. The two companies are locked in a "to the death!" battle, and acrimony is running high. Sony's original gamble, which consisted of fighting Immersion in court and laughing off licensing, looks to have failed miserably. Rather than grin and bear licensing for the PS3, Sony has decided to simply remove DualShock capabilities from the new console (at least for now). Are we really supposed to believe that the real reason "rumble" was left out was because it's passé?
