Im already doing this for my campaign, but i was wondering if anyone actually liked the idea. Basically, you can create cutscenes by creating it in mission. Where Alpha 1 is actually the camera for whats going on. You have the entire mission a series of ai orders that all happen in front of alpha 1. So basically, your turning a mission into a movie. And of course, to keep Alpha 1 from actually interacting in the mission, you blow up his engines subsystem, as well as sensors, weapons, and communications. Finally, make him protected. What do yout think?

Did people like it? I had a similar idea but I haven`t thought of anything worth cut-scening yet.

I was planning to add something like this in Echoes.
"What the hell!? I've got a Snuffleupagus on my scanners! The Snuffleupagus is active!"

MMmmmm..... look at Homeworld for example I love cutscenes made with the game engine
Bah who needeed the Colossus when all we needed was 30 Fenrises

I'm currently experimenting with using another object as the camera (with Alpha 1 a suitible distance away). Works fairly well, except the camera can only be in one positions for each 'piece of action'.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a big fan of in-engine cutscenes. They allow plot development without jarring the player out of the experience, like an FMV tends to do.

I thought of them for TS cos I didn't know how to make any other types of movies. I thought they'd been done before, but apparently not. Hehe people sure liked it. But allow the player to move around with engines and sensors, but no weapons. Don't allow it to give orders. If you keep the ship still, it gives headaches when a ship goes out of view or when people use different resolutions.

well, my first one that sparked the idea was i had a subspace portal, with a large fleet of Terran-Vasudan ships blockading it. The first ship, an orion, was preparing to move in and activate the portal, when it is intercepted by an unknown shivan super-juggernaut, the first contact with the craft. The jugg rips apart the fleet, and moves on. Now I was originally going to make this into a mission, but it seemed rather pointless to throw a bunch of fighters into it, when the main idea was to introduce this super-juggernaut. Besides, when the players fighting, they miss some of the action, so voila, i made a movie out of it.

I prefer pre-rendered cutscenes to in-game ones, but they do tend to take up more room on the disks.
