The HLP Lego Thread
I finally got around to taking pictures of the things I have made during the last few years: (select the images twice to see the proper size)

Star Hammer; could use a few improvements but still looks pretty good.
Annihilator; badass model, easily my best to date.
Mission Commander mod; more of a redesign actually, but it's made from the same parts.
Control Center mod; the pictures suck, but I don't have it built anymore and can't take better ones.
Random stuff; some minor things and parts of unfinished creations.

I should have another project I've been recently working on finished in a few days. I'll put up some images when I am done.

[edit] And here it is:
Cosmic Enforcer

Are any of you into this stuff? Post anything you've built here, both real and computer designed models.

Re: The HLP Lego Thread
HA! I still have some of the original Blacktron guys. Who were actually black, little vader-esque life support stuff drawn on the chest. :p

Not mine, but I wish, and no discussion of awesome lego can go without: http://www.brickcommander.com/

I'll see if there's anything else, but I don't have pictures of most stuff I think...

Re: The HLP Lego Thread
Yeah, I've got about 20 of those scattered around (many of them actually came in SP1 sets as prisoners :D).

I need to get some more Unitron guys. I only have four of them at the moment.

There are some great buildings in that collection. I particularly like that Mechbay one.

@CP5670 -- Dang, all those just look totally awesome.  Excellent work!

I got 2 of those RCX microcomputers and a couple of other, smaller microcontrollers.  But I don't have nearly as many Legos as you do...

Re: The HLP Lego Thread
Thanks. :) I'll have another one up there soon, just adding on some finishing touches to it now.

I don't have an RCX unfortunately. I've got two of the old Control Centers and a Scout, but those aren't quite as useful. I need to see if I can track down one of the original RCX 1.0s, which had a port for an AC adapter to those.

Re: The HLP Lego Thread
I would try E-Bay.  When I got my 2nd RCX a few months ago, direct from Lego, they told me they had stopped manufacuring them.  The one I got from them was an educational RCX prototype, basically identical in circuitry to a standard one, but with a more heavily reinforced frame.  That one was the second last one they had on the company inventory books, along with some other parts I needed for a very special project...I guess I'm just really lucky.

Question:  Do you use and Lego CAD software to design your creations, or do they just come out of your head?

Yeah, ebay is probably my best option. You can actually still get the RCX 2.0s from Lego's educational store and there are many available on Bricklink, but the 1.0s are harder to find. Although I would definitely be willing to pay extra for the AC port. I hate how the battery powered boxes become subtly weaker as the battery charge runs out. They have come out with an RCX successor called NXT that looks very nice, but it also lacks any AC port.

I pretty much just think of stuff as I go along, the old school way of doing it. :D Actually, I would like to become more proficient with one of the Lego CAD apps. I want to make instructions for some of my things (so I can take them apart and still rebuild them in the future), but I find that it takes hours to build even very simple things with something like MLcad.

what's this http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1853260 ?

It's a chassis for a monster truck with drive, steering and suspension on all four wheels without using the Super Car CV joints or other special parts. I have had that thing built for a while but never got around to completing it.

God, I wish I had all my Legos. I had all the Blacktron and M-Tron sets, and a ton of the space police and ice explorer sets. Also had a few from that one underwater one, I cant think of the name for the life of me. When I saw this it made me miss all my Legos. Really, I was huge into them.

Apparently, we have many Lego fans here...  Maybe we should start a Lego build off thread?

You should see the rest of my room. :D I have something around 300 sets and the walls are all packed with the ones that I have built up. My collection basically consists of pretty much all of the larger Technic sets from 1988 to 2000, most of the Aquazone, Model Team and post-classic Space sets, many Town sets, some classic Space sets, a few of the old Expert Builder sets, two Train sets (that Metroliner and its addon were too cool to pass up when Lego rereleased them a few years ago) and maybe around 4000 spare parts.

Look on ebay. I got a lot of old sets from there a few years ago. There are still a handful of things I am looking for (a second 6986 Mission Commander, a 6484 F1 Hauler, a 6940 Alien Moon Stalker and if I can snag a new one without paying through the nose, a 6990 Monorail Transport System), but for the most part I now have everything I always wanted as a kid.

For specific parts, try Bricklink. I bought a bunch of stuff from there just last week for my next few projects. You can also get sets from there, although the prices are often a lot higher than ebay.

ah right. that was my forte (though I wasn't as good). I thought I was clever making an 4 axled dumper truck with the front pair both having steering. I loved using Technic, uh, "technical" stuff with regualr block bodies. Like model Team, but more so.

I just put up my new model, see the original post.

Yeah, that's a fairly popular building style especially for the really large models. Those models look very realistic but also tend to be heavy.

I also love technic legos.

Once I constructed a walking AT-AT. It really walked and proceeded (slowly), but the balance issues were impossible, so I disassembled it and constructed a six-legged walker machine. The six-legged machine walked with having constantly three support points so it was much more stable. Next step would have been 12-legged thingy, having constantly four legs on the ground and moving with three phases of movement - or alternatively, three legs in the ground at any given time, and the legs moving on four strokes. The first would've offered superior balance with four support points, the latter would've offered steadier walk, as the vertical movement would've been much smaller. Unfortunately, I ran out of pieces and engines - the six-legged used two 9V engines (those traditional ones, not the new) and the AT-AT I built using an old, single 4,5V engine system with built-in reduction transmission.

 :D
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

Sounds interesting. I've actually never tried building a walker, but it's something I would like to try at some point.

One thing I am currently working on is an upgraded version of the 8485 CC2 helicopter "simulator", with turning and tilting rotors added in. The challenging part is that I want to do this with only three motors (for the three control center outputs), one for each type of rotation, so the three motors all need to power the main rotors without affecting each other. I have been able to make this work if each motor is powered individually, but the rotors don't still work (without a change in speed) when two or all three motors are turned on simultaneously.

I may need to buy some of the new RC motors for this, as most of my motors are the old 3600RPM 9V ones that are weaker than the various newer ones with internal gear reduction.

Just a question, did anyone tried to make any FS ship out of lego? I think that the Orion or the Colossus would be amazingly easy to do.
