I love the game. I'm playing the HOTU version w/ FS2 Open. I've only used the mouse/keyboard so far. I have the sensitivity all the way up. Is there a way to get the mouse to move faster somehow? It's way too slow. Or does everyone play w/ a joystick? I never have. Is that the way to go? I guess I got used to Freelancer. What is a good one to get?

Can't you increase the mouses sensitivity/speed in the Windows Control Panel? Or have you tried that already?

It's all the way up. I do have a Logitech gamepad, too. I wonder how that would be. I was hoping there was a way to increase mouse sensitivity beyond what the game alows(in game files?)

A joystick is the most convenient way to control your ship. I you don't wanna buy one, I'd recommend using the keyboard only, controlling the ship with the numpad keys.

Mouse control is not very intuitive IMO.

I use a Gravis Xterminator Gamepad, so have a go with your Logitech Gamepad. How many buttons does it have? Does it have a HAT switch? Once you have it set up as you like it you probably won't go back. I have heard some that say using a mouse is better as you can be more accurate when aiming, It's just a case of setting it up to your own preferences I suppose?

It's all a matter of personal preference. I've seen people who swear by using the mouse, my friend uses a gamepad quite well, and I work about equally whether I use joystick or keyboard (I prefer joystick). I've even heard of people who interchange, using a joystick for normal play, and a mouse for improved accuracy in long range battles.

My advice: try them all out, and pick the one you like the best.

It all depends on the joystick and what you're used to.

Personally, my Logitech Wingman Force 3D joystick isn't stable enough for long range. I depend on harpoons for longer range battles, and luck using my primary...

I usually aim in the general area and then blast away... I am quite good in short-range battles (like a chase-hunt) since I am used to it.

If you have a "tight" joystick, you can do longrange battles if you are used to joysticks.

I recommend you "mix it up" before you change over to joystick. This prevents you from wasting your money 100%. To be very good with joysticks, I recommend redoing the entire game on each difficulty mode, taking it up one every time through... it should help you relearn the controls.

You take several playthroughs of a 40 mission campaign to learn a new control scheme...?

Actually no, I don't play through the campaign to learn a new control scheme. Why? First off, I got Colossus which has many fewer missions then Retail. Second, I got Colossus with my joystick. I setup my joystick 5 years ago and have been using the same config for controls for most of the 5 years. Third, when I do change my keys, I only change small and mostly unused buttons. I don't change the entire thing, I remap the controls for what I need at the moment. Fourth, I just like to point-and-blast with a 25% primary hit rating. I dogfight from extremely short distances (50meters or less, depending on what I want to do) taking what I can for shots at my opponent. I use my wingmen to help when I'm bogged down with 3+ SF's or NTF's.
