I'm getting a new Pc (yay!).

But I'm wondering if there's any point in keeping my current Voodoo 4 and putting it in alongside the new 3d card when I buy it.... any advantages of/to this?

  • What is this? I don't even...
Unless one is PCI, its not really worth the effort unless you have two monitors, or a switch...

If you want to run some games that only use 3DFX Glide (or run badly with D3D or OGL) then it's a good idea to keep the card handy/installed...

I think it's lots of compatibility problems for nothing... 2 video cards, that means 2 drivers, and you know how windows would handle that...

ok aldo, 2 cards not a problem, as long as they ent both agp, if there are u might aswell chuck the otherone, or send it me!, i will give u p&p money. Anyway besides that, if u have both in it would add an extra spark to quake 3 gaming having multiple montiors means multiple angles of view simultaniously. but u need a kick as processor to render all the *******  stuff. In my eyes, have the 2 cards and stick another monitor on it then u can have split desktop. So that is always useful when making stuff (programs especially) stick the gui on one window and the code on another, absolute life saver. It is also good if u like listening to music or have a tv card, stick the tv or music on the other window and keep using the main monitor for the rest of ur work!, excellent!!

Well, my system is (planned)
Athlon 1500 Xp
(1.33GHz clock speed, comparable performance to a P4 1.5GHz)
256MB RAM + possibly some from my current machine
30GB Hard drive
Geforce 2 32MB

Possibly a new monitor too

'bout £500

I could maybe network it and my old Pc together (have a spare 5GB disk lying around), if i get a new power supply for the old one.

AMD Are nice CPU's, but tehy generate alot of heat at max 80 celcius. As to the P4 1.5 at 35/40 celcius.

Considering the price/performance levels of the two chips, taking into account proper cooling fans and so on for both - AMD is a clear winner in that (so far).

In preformens yes AMD is better..But because of the heat the system can become unstable. and crashe alot...my neigbours have a AMD 1.4 and they only have probs and then they bought a P4+new mainboard it worked fine..( Mainboarded worked good )

But i think the heat generated on AMD is stupidly high.

I'll get a good heatsink . fan, then.

Anyway, Athlon is just a better designed chip by a mile.  no bottlenecks.
