Re: Stargate SG-1 cancelled
I'm still hoping for Devlin, Spader and Russell to turn the original movie into a trilogy.

It was way richer than the series.
I always thought that the series was better than the movie.  The movie was kid of off I found...the series made it a little more mainstream.  Maybe thats what I liked about it.

http://gateworld.net/news/2006/08/200_ratings_give_istargatei_need.shtml

A 36% jump to beat last season's average BEFORE the cancellation was announced should turn some heads. And after the cancellation news has fully broken, I expect Counter Strike to get some big ratings - maybe even more than '200'.

And the fact that the Atlantis ep 'Real World' tagged part of the boost to the tune of 12% might make them rethink keeping SG-1 and regrouping SG-1 and Atlantis back with BSG.

With the prospect of Morena Baccarin and Ori-blasting fun, I guarantee it.

I hope BSG continues its 1337N355 until the very end of its planned run.

Re: Stargate SG-1 cancelled
My hopes for BSG involve: Tigh killing his Cylon wife and leading the Resistance - finally coming out from Adama's shadow; Baltar slowly becoming a better leader, masterminding covert strikes against the Cylons and redeeming himself by ultimately leading the humans to victory; Rosalin slowly losing her morality and ending up doing some ****ed-up stuff under the banner of the ends justifying the means; Six dying as part of Baltar's path to redemption; And the Cylons going ****ing crazy and turning on each other in a huge, vicious, chaotic civil war.

Apollo and Adama return to Colonies, kicking Cylon butt and then reconfiguring the Sentinels to be their loyal servants. Meanwhile, Gaeta is making a move on Ellen T. Then the battlestars return and unleash the hell on New Caprica, killing everyone.

Re: Stargate SG-1 cancelled
IMHO it is a good thing that SG-1 got cancelled, I only wish it would have happened after season 8 and before they aired season 9.

I hope the SG movie trilogy never happens though, because it has been said that the movies would completely ignore what has happened in the series and only use the events from the original movie. I don't like that one bit. If anything, the movie trilogy should cast Anderson, Tapping, Shanks and Judge because they ARE the characters. Having Russell and Spader back would alienate a lot of people, me included.

Re: Stargate SG-1 cancelled
To be fair, it's only been cancelled by Sci-Fi; there's no reason it can't be picked up elsewhere (Atlantis and SG-1 are on different UK terrestrial channels, for one thing, plus IIRC SG-1 was originally on Showtime or something).

I don't think that will happen. It is all too predictable.

Besides, remember what happened the last time Tigh tried to come out from Adama's shadow?

But that was different. This time, he'll be aiming to cause death and destruction. :p

Anyway, personally I can't wait to see how the bloke loses his eye.

I'd say; being tortured by the Cylons before the New Caprica Resistance busts him out.

And yeah, Tigh is a hard-arsed military man, not a diplomat dealing with civvie concerns.  This should be the sort of situation he shines in.

You all remember the thread when we were speculating about season 2, or the second half of season 2 ? And how we were all pretty much flat out wrong ?

I don't really dare to predict anything about season 3, I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Re: Stargate SG-1 cancelled
Frankly this is not a suprise. Many viewers saw the Ori story line as social and political commentary (Amanda Tapping's comments reinforce this view). SG-1 is getting too ST:Voyager like (meaning takling social issue every episode). When this happens it is usually because one of the following:
  • Writers are running out of ideas
  • Writers are getting arogant
  • Writers are getting pressured to write about these things
  • Writers are getting lazy

But I think this is the underlying reason that the number of viewers have decreased. Viewers are not stupid.

Re: Stargate SG-1 cancelled
Yeah, I thought they'd lose viewers for the whole 'we hate religion' aspect of Season 9 - but then I didn't think enough fundies watched Sci-Fi for it to make a noticable drop in the ratings.

Re: Stargate SG-1 cancelled
Well, I don't think that it is just related to "Fundies" or conservatives, it is just the fact that there is stupid social commentary that makes me sick to my stomach and alienates viewers. Honestly, that was one of the great things of Babylon 5 was that is pretty much avoided the social commentary, although there was some that was hidden or very well disguised as part of the story. This well hidden was more a commentary of the Cold War in my opinion.

B5 also dealt with some social issues, such as racism.

I have a question for you:

BSG is very political and is very much a social comentary. So, does that make it a bad show?
