Gosh, how the heck am I supposed to print out all these recommendations?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Which Weber book do you have?

I'd suggest something, but all of the good Scifi books that I've read in a long time have been already mentioned.  But I would suggest "Lord of the Flies" for a regular fiction book.

That's a pretty good one but the storyline doesn't take off until later.  I really liked "Honor of the Queen," "Honor Among Enemies," "In Enemy Hands," and "Echoes of Honor."
Ashes of Victory was also good, but it concerned politics more than combat, so if you read them for the combat, stick with the ones I mentioned.

I hate to break it to you, but the US has been positively humane in their treatment of the Afghans, compared to almost any other nation in history.  If stuff like that had happened a century or two ago, there would be a lot more than a 'few' civilian deaths.  Not that I mean to highjack this thread, but don't harp on the US when they've showed admirable restraint in the face of such obvious provocation.  Or should I remind you of what they could do?

Any of Orson Scott Card's books you would enjoy (Sci-Fi)... especially the Ender series

Old time Sci-Fi... The Foundation Trilogy (now expanded much past a trilogy)

* deletes rest of list before Sandwich's printer runs out of paper *

I'd love to have something to recommend, but sci-fi books are really hard to find here in Brazil. I only read the Dune series, some Culture books (had to get them from the US), Contact (really good), and some books by Stanislaw Lem (old books, but extremely well written, and the guy had incredible imagination).

By the way, If anyone wants to send me sci-fi books, I'll be glad to send postcards back.

Terry Pratchett is a very good writer. I've read all the Discworld books, my favorite at the moment is The Last Continent.
As for Sci-fi books, there is a trilogy of trilogies about B5 (Psi-Corp, Centauri and another I can't see to remember).

If the rest are anything like the one I read (Ender's Game, or something along those lines)then they are an excellent series.

Alikchi, what's the title of the 3rd book of the trilogy, I can't seem to find it any where arround where I live. (and I don't even know the title   ) I have to see how the authority gets his buttox whipped.

On novels I'd recommend the Dune series, (the ones Herbert wrote) Foundation, and the Lensmen series, (dirigible planets baby!) Ringworld's also pretty good. (Puppeteers rule the universe!)

I would recomend "This is your life!" is a big red book, can't miss it!

Seroiusly Read a book about terrorist phsycology or, if you have already got one of them get Icewind dale or the other 1 million books like it. (i purposly suggested non-sci-fi books cos you need a break man! )

Shrike: I was working of some millitary cou (whatever) theries and their very itersting - mainly its impossible in a domocracy! unless you steal tanks, chopers etc from countrys own millitary bases! That is so unfair! in Afganistan you can just buy loads of old russian tanks from a country that suports your action and all you have to do is foot the bill and win! In UK you carn't even get a handgun! what sort of chance to Cous have? eh? Its better in 12th century when you could kill loads of poeple justly! AND you can wear that nice shiny armour AND no bombs fell on you.

(Im joking, im not going to kill anyone. OK?)
