Got them, plus all the rest of the SW continuation books (well, almost all... ). Actually I think that that series (with the Yuzang Vong (sp?) is one of the weaker of the books - the ones by Timothy Zahn or Kathy Tyers (sp?) are excellet.

One another note, I'm here in Florida (Raa, where r u?!?   ) and I've picked up the first Ender book - almost finished it in an afternoon sitting.   I'm hoping to pick up the rest of the series in a used bookstore.

Can anyone (Shirke...?   ) give me a rundown on the order I should read the Culture series? I can't find most of them, and I don't want to start reading in the middle.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Yeah, Zahn rules!  Loved his work in the Thrawn Trilogy.

ShiRKe! That's a good one, I'll have to remember it - along with SNADwich...

Anyway, I'm looking in the front of Look To Windward, and I'm pretty sure this is the order they were written in:

  • Consider Phlebas
  • The Player Of Games
  • Use Of Weapons
  • The State Of The Art
  • Against A Dark Background
  • Feersum Endjinn
  • Excession
  • Inversions
  • Look To Windward

Hope that helps.

Where? Florida's a big state (lengthwise... no puns intended! ). It took us 3 and a half hours (driving through nothing but endless swamps) just to visit my mom on the west coast for Thanksgiving.

Btw, another old, old time fave Sci-Fi of mine is "Jumper" by Steven C. Gould. It's not super sci-fi (just about a kid who can teleport), but for those of us who always wanted to escape our normal teen years, this was a good book.

Don't tell me, your going to get mad at people spelling your name properly now, right?

On another note, I had a laptop once... it was perfectly capable of playing... Descent.

Still, great fun

Oh and dad had one that was more than happy to play Descent II and Wing Commander Prophecy, kept me occupied for ages when I was in hospital
