@ Redsniper: Eh, buck up. All of the more ludicrous stuff that goes on at A&M is surprisingly easy to abstain from. That's really just the Corps' doing anyway.
While I agree with Kosh that you are going to be hard pressed to find employment outside of academia, A&M does have a top notch physics program. Who are some of your profs? I might know one or two of them. If you wise up (joking! joking!) and decide to go engineering, let me know. My wife and I have a lot of contacts in the Mechanical and Civil engineering departments.
@ Ford: To each his own, but I for one had limited funding that meant I needed to pick a career and run with it if I didn't want to end up buried in debt for the rest of my life. That, and I think I've always known I wanted to design new technology, so engineering was the logical choice. The decision wasn't hard. In a way, though, I kind of envy the approach you are taking. There were a lot of courses unrelated to my "career" I didn't have time to take. Still, that has not stopped me from learning about them on my own.
