Let's just say that it's in state and we briefly had a member on HLP from said University, which caused the Texan HLPers (myself included) to flip out given the school's... reputation, and so it's ironic that I'm going here now.

Well, I'm not actually assuming that philosophy will be my career path, mainly because I have little interest in teaching, (or graduate work in philosophy, for that matter.) I see it more as acquiring a knowledge base that will be useful in other areas of interest, like creative writing. If I had real guts, I probably would have gone all out and been a music major.

Who says he needs a career plan? College can be a place where people discover new interests and find out what they want their career to be. I think it's a mistake to look at it as job training.

Yeah for music! My brothers a music major. How on Earth are you going to get a job in philosophy? The only thing I see them doing is teaching philosiphy. No one hires people to "think" for them (in the philosophy way).

As I said in that same post, college is not job training. I'm studying these things because they're my areas of interest. I have no idea where I'll end up career-wise. That's not what I'm thinking about right now.
