Also , u must realize that the apparent alliance of the US with Pakistan makes the US effort look like kind of a farce. The entiry situation is filled with irony. The Taliban and Osama are actually US creations. Ok they got a lot worse after they wre left to themselves. and Pakistan - their economy is in a ruin - so much so that their President's mansion was put up for rent - all because of their incessant support and supply of arms and ammo to the very forces the US now fights. Even during the weeks of bombing , Pakistan supplied the goodies to the Taliban. the massive riots and ready support by the Pakistani people of the Taliban was overlooked , as was the intensified attacks in Kashmir. Is it fair that the US reserves the right to strike anywhere to avange 1 day of bloodshed , when we have faced the same bloodshed on a much larger scale, since 1947? and after that , it joins forces with the very enemy , while ignoring a true freind in its fight against terrorism ie India? I find all this really shameful and downright unfair, if not kind of racial and greedy.

Thunder...you might want to close this as this might turn ugly really soon really fast.

IceFire:  True..very true.  What I fear is it getting worse.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go watch what's left of B5...just so I won't say anything that would get me banned from here.

Hey I'm originally from India as well (Pune, maharashtra), but I think that the US is doing the right thing here since whatever they doing, it is in their own interests. (which is ultimately what matters in world politics) It may not be 'morally' the best thing to do, as may be the fact that the US considers Pakistan its ally, but this is simply the way things work in global politics.

My personal opinion is that India is being a bit too "soft" on this issue (US also has this problem although not to such an extent); they have the military might required to hold kashmir by force but keep asking for authorization from everyone else before doing even the smallest thing. What do you think?

Anyway I'm going to get out of here before things get too hot...

In response to a number of recent posts - I say, keep it up! As far as I can see, this has been (for the most part) a sane, rational discussion. Keep it that way, recognize that even if you know a person is wrong about something, he/she has the right to express it, and be willing to listen to your friends here on the boards and their opinions on the current (ugly) world situation today.

Now, for my 2 pence... I do believe that the US was not overstepping it's limits in going after the "terrorists and nations that harbor terrorisim", but I also believe that they went about it the wrong way. In my opinion, the US did not need to form a world-wide coalition (what a joke) to fight terror. Support, yes. Coalition, no.

People (in a very general sense) need to realize that while a nation such as Syria might condemn 9-11 and verbally support retaliation against the perpatrators, they will not support the US in a world-wide terrorisim seek-and-destroy operation. That would simply be signing their own death warrant.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Ok, possibly my reaction was too strong there. Hey CP5670 , when did u move to the US? Never thought i'd meet an NRI here. Yeah , u could say India is being soft, but then again , it is virtually impossible for us to do what the US did, given the tremendous pressures and tension that already prevail in the region. Pakistan is an easily excitable foe , and would readily resort to nuclear weapons to equalize against the massive Indian Army. And then there's China , and Europe and the US arent going to just sit n watch India blow up terrorist camps n all.
