You can wait for them to fix it, or you can get Opera now! :D

(Okay okay I'll stop... eventually ;))

yeah because we really need ad-supported hackware that does some of the same ****ty things that M$ does (adds new "features" to the standards)

What the hell are you talking about? Aside from a few deviations, Opera is pretty much as specs compliant as you can get. Firefox has added more 'features' to the standard by far!

And Ad Supported Hackware?!

You're a bit behind the times dude... let me be the first to welcome you to the Year 2006  ;)

Kal: In Opera or FireFox?
In FireFox, Right-click on one of the buttons; You should get a context-menu with Navigation Toolbar, Bookmark Toolbar and Customize...
You can disable some of the tool bars, or Click Customize and then you can Drag the unwanted bits away.

In Opera 9, Right-click on one of the buttons; Again you get a context menu. Click on Customize and from here you can change the Skin, Panel, Toolbar and Button settings. I'm for the search bar you just untick the searchbar and it'll go away :)
Hopefully this will be close enough that you can figure through any differences - I've re-written the interface INIs for my Opera quite heavily, removing stuff I never use and adding things I do use often...

Because I already have Google.co.uk set to my home page and don't need a search bar cluttering up the interface.

So set Hard Light as your home page and use the navigator for Google?

And what Opera Fanboy said is right, just drag it away onto the customize window.

Ahh onto the customisation window. That did the trick. I had already tried dragging it just about everywhere else.

Enought with the Opera flaming allright? It's a fine browser and I haven't had any problems with it so far. And while I prefer Opera over Firefox, I still don't go around badmouthing Firefox users. IE really is piece of ****, and I have no problems about making fun of it or it's users. But what comes to Opera and Firefox, they are pretty much equally good browsers.

And for the tenth time, Opera is completely ad free.

Here's something interesting: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html

I don't know if you are already familiar with this, but the test results are... interesting.

Obviously, Firefox 2 test results are for beta version, so they are not really reliable, but other wise I think it gives quite good picture of browser speeds and other properties.

And talking about the standards... Opera 9 was the first browser to completely pass the Acid 2 test. Later, more browsers have passed it, but Opera was the first one. Firefox 1.5.0.7 does not pass the test. Don't know about FF2, however.

Ads have been away from Opera releases since I don't even remember what version. Perhaps it was 8 something? Whatever.

Besides, Opera has much better mouse gesture features than any FF extensions I've tried. The FF mouse gesture recognition just isn't as good as in Opera. Though that's partially a question of getting used.

On Opera, I particularly like the use of "g" in the address. Type, for example, g Hard Light and it does a Google search on keywords Hard Light. No need to use the search bar. :D
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

FF and Opera are both good browsers, so I really don't see a point of arguing which is better as it's mostly a matter of taste. I prefer FF, some friends of mine prefer Opera... but we all loathe IE in unison ;)

By the way, Firefox will do that way of searching too, if you want it to. Takes all of two minutes to set up. Plus you can set up other keywords for different searches in the address bar as well. In my case for example, if I start with "g" it searches google, with "wiki" it searches the wikipedia, "faq" searches gamefaqs, "myth" the encyclopedia mythica (the #1 resource when you can't come up with a decent Freespace ship name), "dict" searches dictionary.com, and of course just typing a phrase without any keyword does an "I feel lucky" google search on it.

That's the cool thing about Firefox - The Extensions system is VERY powerful and fairly easy to code for too!

With the right extensions, you can give Firefox all the features Opera has, e.g. mouse gesturing, internal torrent support, crash recovery, on-the-fly page hacking (as in Greasemonkey), improving things like the cookie, popup, download, search and password handling to levels at least as good as Operas (Seriously, do this; FF's baseline handling really sucks...) and more!
Heck, the only things you can't give it are Opera's speed and stability ;)

I'd love to get a similar thing in Opera - You get a *damned* lot of functionality out the box, but that's pretty much it. You can customise what's there to obscene levels, but there is no real facility to extend what it can do as easily as the FF Extensions system (Sorry, but Widgits don't even come close... IMHO they're a horrible waste of code; They don't do anything that can't be done in a Panel...).

That said, I'm not sure I'd trade the Firefox Extensions system for Opera's speed and stability...

Erk... but have I started another flamewar?!  :nervous:

So... uh... how about that Lynx browser..? *runs*

FF2 won't pass Acid2 test since it uses the same engine as FF1.5. However, FF3 will have a new version of the Gecko engine and it should pass Acid2. That said, a browser is not necessarly better than another one because it passes the Acid2 test. Some web pages that displays correctly in FF don't in Opera 9 (altough it can happen that Opera displays pages that FF don't render correctly up to now, I had more display bugs in Opera).

The one thing Opera suck at is JavaScript...  But I suppose since JavaScript in itself sucks, the implementation of it must also suck.

To be honest the biggest advantage of FF is extendability... it blows Opera and IE 7 out of the water that way.

The reason they get away with that is because part of IE's memory consumption is hidden in other windows subsystems that are always running because IE is integral to the OS.
