Re: Elementry school bans tag
Is there some government conspiracy to make sure every kid in the US is obese?

Well, it is Massachusetts.  I guess I know who to thank for pussifying America's youth.

But on past the jabs, whatever happened to "that what does not kill us makes us stronger?"  As long as kids aren't being paralyzed or seriously injured, why not let them have some fun?  I had a lot of fun from elementary through middle school playing touch and tackle football and basketball, and I can think of numerous occasions where kids would walk up with scrapes, bruises, or bloody noses.  Funny thing is, those were the kids that would end up playing for the high school and taking our team to the State championships.

The kids that weren't destined to play sports found that out pretty quickly, usually; they'd retire back to the swings after a few months of basketball not working out for them.  Let the kids learn from their mistakes, it's the best way to.

Re: Elementry school bans tag
I remember when I used to play tag in elementary school.  We had about 40+ people play at a time.  We had to play on blacktop too.  (No grass.)  To top it off, to get away from the peoson who was "it," we would often weave through, and hide in, the touch football and kickball games that were also going on.  I think we had a total of two injuries during the whole year, the worst being my skinned knee and hand.  The other kid got a splinter.  (We had a wooden playground.)

Banning chase games is just idiotic.  Some of my best memories of recess were the near-misses.  Kids today are too sheltered and coddled.  They get all their experiences from TV and video games (which can be good in moderation), but there are some things that can only be learned by going out and experiencing the real world, something many kids don't do today.

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

Riiiiiiiight....

Well, what did you expect?  Don't try to defend morons who pull this sort of stuff just because it's New England.  People complain how America's youth are becoming obese, games and television are repeatedly criticized, and now they're shielded from getting hurt at all  How the hell do you think they'll learn?  A kid won't really know a stove's hot unless he feels it for himself.

That's why I'm really glad I live nice and far away from bullshot like this.

So would you like to get into a discussion of Red State vs. Blue State then?  It seems to be what you're gearing towards.

I'm not defending this at all-- I'm just as disgusted as everyone else. But as I said, I'm just flabbergasted that this phenomenon is becoming associated with "liberal pussies" when it's really just a stupidity epidemic. I know a whole lot more liberals than conservatives, but I don't know anyone who would see this and say, "Yeah, that's what we need!"

Re: Elementry school bans tag
I always find this confusing, we get so concerned about harming the 'poor innocent children' that we work non-stop to try and take everything away from them that actually makes them children

Re: Elementry school bans tag
I remember now, when I was in elementary school the kids were playing tag, I was just standing there and the guy who was supposed to tag come fastly by behind me, he seemed to be enjoyning because he taged me really hard, which push me like a meter, however I was saved from the floor because my head was smashed by a corner of one of the door's wall, leaving both blood in the wall, and bleeding from my head, I ended in the hospital.

I found funny the fact that it wasn't an accident because I was playing, I wasn't, I was just standing there, that somewhat goes to show you, that you can take a bath and slip with the soap, and then you would be....., wonder if the irony about this "It happened to you because you weren't playing, if you were, nothing would have happened"

-----------------------------------------------------------

I rarely live by my experiences, I enjoyed to play tag back in elementary school, besides I have much worse experiences in elementary school than that one.....

And I was simply saying that Massachusetts is taking a step towards messing up kids.  Red states are doing it, too (Wyoming and South Carolina), but all I felt like citing was the one immediately on topic.

I really can't wait for the day when US institutions and industries aren't being grappled by incompetent parents.

Couldn't agree more.  Some things kids do when they're young are dangerous and painful, but that pain will make them stronger in the long run.  Shield them now, and we expose them to a huge culture shock when they go into the real world beyond graduation.

Yes, but would you have said, "Well, it is South Carolina" if that's where the story were coming from? You must understand how I saw political charge in that.

Re: Elementry school bans tag
I do see.  If it had been about South Carolina, I would've rolled my eyes and called the lot of them a bunch of idiots as well.  The "it is Massachusetts" part stems primarily from my own personal policy to not hold New England as a whole in any high regard.

When people try to sue for something idiotic, the legal system should have the balls to turn around and tell them that they're a ****ing moron.

It probably wouldn't solve the problem, but it might make those of us with positive IQs feel a little better.

Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable.

What they should've done, of course, is take all the staff preventing tag (et al) and made them act as referees.
