It's even worse, recently the PS2 has problems with compatibility regarding it's own PS2 games:

I bet they used the same hardware revision of the PS2 that's giving problems for the PS3, simply brillant.

I thought this was about the PS3's inability to scale a 720p signal to a 1080i signal, thus causing 720p games on 480i/p/1080i sets to revert to 480i/p.

Though the original problem is not merely a PS3 thing.

Taking a leaf out of Nintendo's book, Sony today said it would offer a number of older PSOne and PS2 titles for download after the launch. They're included in the 22 PS3 titles Sony said will ship during the US Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday period.

Wait a minute. Does that mean that Sony said it would have a certain number of PS3 games available, couldn't make the cut, and slapped in a few ports to make up the number? Or did they just include them from the start to make it look like a bigger number?

My guess is a little of both. It owuld not wholly surprise me if they also counted those as "backwards compatible"

Wii launch figures count "60 games" half of which are on the VC.

Marketing guys LOVE enigmatic numbers.

Technically there are 13 (?) "next-gen" titles available at launch. Including downloadable games.

It's still a little shady to pad the count by including simple ports and the like. Sure, everyone does it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
