I don't play online. Maybe Freespace, years ago. I would play EVE, but can't because I'm a poor piece of crap. I did, however, try out WoW with a questionable copy and on those free servers. Mostly because my friend (WOW fanatic may god have mercy on his soul) wouldn't stop talking about it. Disregarding the fact that it was on those free servers, it didn't seem all that special.
I tired to play Tauren a bit. There was this high level elf stalking the fields near the starting village who kept slaughtering lvl1 noobs. We couldn't even dent him. I think I died about 6-9 times before I got enought and left.
And another time I was trying out a human cleric. I met this dude and chatted a bit with him. He told me he was from Turkey, and I made my character make the chicken dance. He got offended.
On another server I spent hours talking gibberish with this halfling because we didn't have the same language (dumb server). Then I died when I charged two golem creatures who were about 20 lvl higher than me (yeah, I was a noob), I think the halfling dude tried to warn me because he didn't even try to help me, but insted kept yelling gibbersih at me.
That's three things I remeber out of, I don't know, maybe about a week of playing time. Rest was endless slaughtering of assorted colourful animals who keep repawning when you turn your back at them. That was on a free server. I've been watching my friend play, and it seems it's the same on real servers. Exept there are more people slaughtering ther animals and you have to wait for them to respawn so that you get your turn to kill them.
I ackowlege the fact that some people like it and enjoy playing it. But the colourful graphics and enless hack&slash to get colourful items goes beyond me. Especiall when the only goal seems to be to reach the sought after 60th lvl. And then you get to start it all over again. I don't think I make anyone lose their sleep if I just keep on playing Silent Hunter a let other pay for WoW.
