The Mirage, Venom?

I'm personally a fan of the line of ships that includes the Coyote, Patriot and Shroud. I love the design style on them.

I converted the Mirage to FS2...only one MAJOR flaw,...the guns are far to wide spread to be affective vs fighters. V forgot to give FS2 the ability to converge gun fire.

At this moment I'm working on the Phoenix,..looks great in MV32,..has the famous angles into infinity in fred

Personally i liked the multinational feeling to it. Even their flag resembled that.
For the rest: I wish I never bought it.

It came from outer space! What? Dunno, but it's going back on the next flight!

You're kidding right? Starlancer was absolutely excellent. Its the only space combat game I've installed more times than Freespace2.

Well, show me Starlancer with modding like FS and a FRED program and I'll show you someone modding a new game. It was just to small!

I think Starlancer was crap. Ship handled a ridiculous way (the more slow your ship was flying, the more slowly it turned... hem yeah), models were great, but maps were all brownish (huhargh! who vomited on my screen???). The IA was, well, pityfull: dudes! the guys at the lancers reactor takes the FS2 wingmen AI as a reference!!!
And the story... the only good thing in the story was the way characters were put in, THAT was neat.
Oh, i won't talk about the fact the game is completly unbalanced, with super easy missions once, then super hard just next, and then again a super easy mission. And I will forget that half the missions consist on hunting down torpedoes.
FS2 owns.

But of course, French things sux period.   j/k

It's a fact.  Stupid people have stupid children.  If you are stupid, don't have sex.  If you insist on having sex.  Have sex with animals.  If you have sex with an animal.  Make sure the animal is smarter than you are.  Just encase of some biological fluke you and the animal have offspring, they won't be as stupid as you are.   One more thing.  Don't assume the animal is protected.  If the animal has a condom, or if female some interuterian device, insist they wear it.  Help stop this mindless mindlessness.  Keep your stupidty to yourself.  This message was brought to you by the Committee of Concerned Citizens that are Smarter than You are.

Yeah, Starlancer needed to be moddable, or it needed expansions.

Venom, I agree with you completely on the ship maps, but that's it. I liked the fact that you had to be under thrust to turn (don't ask me why, I just did).

I don't care about wingman AI, becuase wingman AI always sucks. Even the FS2 wingmen are useless unless you watch them all the time and keep giving them orders. I assume that any wingmen out there are useless, and work from there.

As for the difficulty level, the whole game was too easy. I played it on the highest difficulty and I owned all. I must have hit 300 kills before mission 15. There was only mission that was truly 'hard' and that was the second to last.

Mission design, however, is where I thought the game shone. There are lots of missions shooting down torps, but there's also classics, like the raid on the Advanced Warp Gate asteroid (shades of Starwars), and the two missions where you have to steal fuel cells. Then there was the raid on the Czar. That mission was awesome.   But the best mission, the mission that had me sweating bullets, was the battle between the Pukov and the Yamato. I had to pry my hands of the stick after that mission. I was sweating and breathing shallowly and my heart was pounding. I felt abused. It was excellent. I can't think of another single mission in any other game that I enjoyed so much (the last battle at Capella in FS2 comes close).

And of course, the best part of the game was that it was so much like World War 2 in space. The setting, the personalities, and the events gave the whole thing a rather epic scale. That really appeals to me.

The game is not without its problems, but its still my second favorite space combat sim. Freespace was my favorite until Starlancer and Starlancer was beat out by Iwar2.

but it was only about dogfight not bombing runs and you couldnt damage capships very much....

However Kurgen hunting was hilarious

Well, to sum up, I was bored playing SL. And now that's what makes a game crappy to me.
The duel between capships, let's talk about it. capships are mission objectives, they're props. They could not protect themselves from a single bomber! What the hell??? In that mission where you have to blow the reactor of a capship in a docking structure, I eventually just sat there, and destroyed the damn thing, w/o doing crap, just pushing the trigger. Talk about puzzling action.
oh, about the wingmens: in SL, they don't even protect you, they're useless. I challenge you to edit all the fs2 missions and delete all the wingmen, then try to beat the game. Then you'll see that the FS2 wingmen aren't that useless  . And dogfights... oh well, the more I think of it, the more I think it's just wasted money that I could have used to buy another game... (Iwar1 in budget maybe?)

Actually, deleting the wingmen in FS2 might make the game more challenging. A little. Its not as if they do anything but draw some of the fire (which exactly what the wingmen in SL do).

Seriously, I can't defend Starlancer to you if you didn't like it. Let's just say I did, you didn't and agree that we like Freespace and IWar2?

I definately liked StarLancer and I liked alot of its merits, but it doesn't have the flexibility and overall solidness that FS2 has.  While FS2 works fine on its own, StarLancer's wingmen and missions are as everyone has already said, heavily scripted.

This is great for mission design inspiration from time to time.  Because scripting a mission makes it a whole lot more interesting, but only to a point.  So having both working for you in FS2 is where things really come together.

SL had real style tho.  Very well done in the style department.
